Profound Professional Interview with Nicholas Clement, Educator and Founder of Chi Education: Changing the World One Mindful Student at a Time
I had the honor of interviewing Nicholas Clement, an experienced primary school educator and founder of Chi Education, a multi-award-winning organization dedicated to improving the mental health and confidence of young people. Nicholas left his ten-year teaching career to focus on what he saw as a greater need: addressing the emotional well-being of young people affected by the modern world. He witnessed firsthand the impact of COVID-19 on children's mental health and was motivated to create avenues for young people to build resilience, self-confidence, and positivity.
Nicholas’s path to Chi Education began traditionally, following the steps of college and university to enter teaching. However, as he worked with children in the classroom, he realized there was a gap between traditional education and the support needed for students’ mental well-being. Driven by his passion, he started Chi Education, which initially provided wellness programs integrating creative themes like "The Lion King" and "The Greatest Showman" to engage children holistically. As he observed more challenges faced by young people, he expanded Chi Education’s mission to serve teens and even adults through innovative mental health programs.
Chi Education’s ideal clients are young people around the world and their communities, including schools and parents, who seek to build a foundation of mental wellness and self-confidence. Nicholas envisions his work as a movement to improve emotional resilience, equipping the next generation with tools to better face life's pressures. Chi Education offers unique programs such as in-school well-being initiatives, outdoor holiday clubs, and digital mental health courses for teens. Through accessible, engaging content, Nicholas ensures that essential mental health skills are available to all young people, regardless of financial barriers.
During our interview, Nicholas shared a powerful business tip that has guided his journey: “Understanding your brain’s emotional reactions can be transformative.” Inspired by Professor Steve Peters' The Chimp Paradox, Nicholas explained how learning to manage our emotional responses—our “inner chimp”—allows us to approach situations with clarity and resilience. His work with students has shown that this understanding builds self-confidence and the ability to manage stress.
Nicholas’s go-to inspiration is The Chimp Paradox, but he also draws wisdom from The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone, which helped him take bold actions and promote Chi Education more broadly. Another influential figure is Alex Hormozi, whose business insights have shaped Nicholas's practical approach to expanding Chi Education.
As an author, Nicholas has contributed significantly to children's mindfulness literature. His Mindfulness Adventures series, including Let’s Look Through the Window, invites young readers to interact with calming activities on each page, teaching mindfulness techniques through hands-on, playful exercises. His upcoming book Let’s Meet the Monsters Under the Bed presents mindfulness as a way to address nighttime anxiety. Each story serves as a comforting tool for children learning to manage emotions.
Chi Education is not only about teaching children today but also about nurturing resilient adults for tomorrow. Through projects like Peer to Peer, a digital mental health course, Nicholas empowers teens to tackle issues such as social media anxiety and productivity pressures, developing life skills that will serve them well beyond school years.
Final Thought
Nicholas left us with a poignant message, quoting Desmond Tutu: “We need to stop pulling people out of the river and go upstream to find out why they’re falling in.” His mission with Chi Education is not just to support young people as they face challenges but to foster an environment where they’re equipped to overcome them.
