Professionalism and LinkedIn

LinkedIn and being Professional

It bothers me that I have to say this, LinkedIn has de-evolved over time to be more akin to Facebook so I find it necessary to write this.

LinkedIn is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally.

This description in my opinion precludes people who post pictures of themselves in an unprofessional manor. So far as I am concerned, your gender, how attractive you might be do not matter. What does matter is your professionalism, your integrity, honesty, ability to communicate clearly, respecting boundaries, nurturing and fostering a professional business relationship and so much more.

I am not interested in cute animal videos, I remove people who post those things from my network. I am not interested in your religious beliefs, this is not the place for that type of thing. I honestly do not care if you are attractive, my personal opinion is that far too many people, specially in some business sectors, rely far too heavily on their physical appearance to conduct business, for me this is only a consideration when people are attempting to overly express their sexuality or when they are wearing costumes to get attention. If you need a gimmick to get attention or have people ad you to their network then you are doing it all wrong.

I understand some people use this platform to sell goods or services, but I am not here for that type of thing. If we need a piece of equipment or service, we will research the available options and make an informed purchase. I do not appreciate sales messages or cold calls. Further more, I do not appreciate head hunters, or recruiters. If we are looking for talent we will again research those who are available and contact those whom we are interested in. I am not paying someone to do that work for me, or paying someone whom pays a percentage of that salary to a head hunter. I remove people who make sales pitches or make pitches that end up in my network. I am not a Lion, nor do I desire to be.

What I am interested in is making connections with other people in my professional industry. To share knowledge, methods, science, etc.

I do not appreciate political or religious messages. I will remove people from my network who express these things. I will not entertain offers of gold dore' or diamonds specially from people in West African nations, anyone with any significant quantity of precious metals can very simply sell to any reputable refinery, anywhere in the world. All that is needed is to ship their gold to a reputable refinery, have a proper assay performed and then that refinery to pay the agreed upon amount after a proper assay. There is no need or requirement for brokers, they are never used as they are not needed. There is no need for discounts, these are just scams.

I prefer to do business with people who are morally responsible to humans, the environment and strive to do what's right in these respects. I prefer not to do business with people or corporations that are only morally responsible to make more profit, I feel that is one of the many things wrong with our world today, people or corporations seeking profit above those things that are truly important. I avoid doing business with these types of people and corporations as much as possible.

People who are using this site outside it's intended purposes should not attempt to add me, I will be reviewing your profile and not accepting your ad request if you do not fit within my business standards. You can use Facebook for all your cute animal video's, religious posts, political opinions or all other things this site was not intended to be used for.

I will accept people who can abide by what I have outlined here and have something to do with our business or industry.

I know what this will sound like to some people, if what I have said here has offended you in some way then you should not seek to be in my network. I strive to follow the intended purpose of LinkedIn, I hope you do the same.
