Making you a Hero in front of?your Family…

Earlier this year I had to make an unavoidable trip to Bangalore with my family. Not wanting to put us all at unneeded risk, we decided to drive down from Pune. After a long and tiring day of driving, we finally arrived at the Oberoi in Bangalore with nothing on our minds except rest. However, there was a wonderful surprise that caught Rakshan’s—my son—attention. There, perched on the table was a tray of chocolates!

Chocolates as a welcome gift in a 5-star hotel seem like standard fare—however these were no ordinary chocolates. Upon closer inspection, we all noticed that on a red palette lay chocolates with banners displaying the logos of all the companies I had worked in! Every item was edible, from the palette, to the banners, to the chocolate. What a painstakingly prepared personalized welcome! Nazarene and Rakshan both agreed that it was exquisite. I was absolutely floored. After a few moments of taking the scene in, my eyes went moist.

There is history to this. Around three decades ago, I served at The Oberoi, Bangalore as its Personnel Manager upon its inauguration. I recall that time fondly and continue to maintain bonds I made years ago. However, the fact remains that I worked with the group in the 1990s. Here I was visiting Bangalore on personal work thirty years later, with nothing more than a wish for Nazarene and Rakshan to experience the place I worked at long ago.

Most five star hotels welcome guests with flowers, a drink, chocolates or fruit, but what The Oberoi Bangalore, did went above and beyond. By personalising the welcome based on shared history and mutual admiration, they made me a hero in front of my family. They have carved a niche in all our hearts by creating an experience that will be cherished for a long time.
