Professional Maintenance Prepares to Protect our Community

Professional Maintenance of Michigan’s very own Infection Control Specialist and approved JCAHO disinfectant consultant has been planning for the pandemic we are in for many years. He did not just think a pandemic would come; he knew it would … the question was when.

Having worked for Abbott Laboratories in the research and test area where he oversaw infection control of 14 laboratory buildings, he worked around most of the deadliest microorganisms known to man. Combined with training from most of the many disinfectant manufactures about each of their disinfectants and their capability, he had practical knowledge of infection control in a controlled setting.

He spent an additional 10 years employed as a director in various medical facilities where he developed his knowledge of infection control in community settings. In that time, he was able to maintain a hospital-acquired infection rate 5 times lower than the national average for 7 of 10 years. He has been ready to take on the task of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic we are living through now.

Our preparation goes back 5 years. We felt there must be a better way of dispensing disinfectant on a massive scale other than just a spray bottle and rag. We started looking at different types of spraying and fogging systems. They all worked but not up to the level we needed. Three years ago, the Clorox electrostatic sprayer was introduced to the market for disinfecting use. It was a good start, but it was not approved to kill the germs most commonly found in schools and the cost was not practical.

We were able to find another electric static sprayer that we could choose the disinfectant that we would use in it. Many people do not realize that different disinfectants kill different microorganisms. There is no disinfectant that kills all the different germs. Using each disinfectant’s kill claim we match the disinfectant to the germ we are killing at the time. In all we carry 5 different disinfectants to cover any microorganisms we could run into.

In 2018 we introduced our Electrostatic Disinfectant Sprayer System. We used it first to kill Influenza Virus, A(H3N2), with much success. We knew then it would become more important in the future. The wait for the pandemic begins.
