The ProductTank Awards - World Product Day 2022

The ProductTank Awards - World Product Day 2022

Every year, on World Product Day, we make sure to shine the spotlight on our incredible ProductTank organisers from around the world. Last year to do this, we hosted the first ever ProductTank Awards. This year, they're back with even more categories including a fan vote on favourite ProductTank Speakers and talks! Here are the categories:

??Most events hosted in 2021

??Most popular Stream in 2021

??Most popular Stream (collaboration) in 2021

??Most popular talk published on mindtheproduct.com

??Your favourite ProductTank speaker

??Your favourite ProductTank talk?

We also asked ProductTank organisers to let us know about their co-organisers that have done a great job in making their ProductTank even better. We selected 3 organisers to shine a spotlight on and thank for their awesome work!

So, without further ado, let's get started!

The?ProductTank that hosted the most events in 2021 is ProductTank Pune with a whopping 11 events!

Be sure to follow ProductTank Pune's Meetup page to know when their next event will be.

The competition was very close this year though! So close in fact, that we have a joint second and third place.

In second place are ProductTank Columbus and ProductTank Wellington with 10 events hosted in 2021 ??

In third place is ProductTank London, Auckland, Bucharest, Dubai, and Philadelphia all hosting 9 events in 2021!

Like we said, it was a very close competition! It's important to remember that every ProductTank is a winner for battling through the chaos that was organising meetups during lockdown and adapting hard through the uncertainty of 2021. We're so lucky to have so many dedicated and incredibly passionate ProductTank organisers - and it really shows in their work.

Now it's time for the most viewed stream of 2021. Since 2020, ProductTanks have been hosting online and hybrid events and have streamed them onto the Mind the Product YouTube account.

The most popular event was ProductTank Wellington's event, the rise of product ops by Bianca Grizhar, with 62 likes and 3070 views!

Second place goes to ProductTank Bern with their fireside chat with Marty Cagan, reaching 70 likes and 2008 views.

Third place goes to ProductTank Belfast for their event with Gibson Biddle discussing Netflix's 2021 product strategy, with 1990 views and 61 likes.

Sometimes, ProductTanks will team up for a digital or hybrid event to bring some awesome speakers or discussions across their communities. These can range from 2 ProductTanks to 20 different ProductTanks collaborating!

The winner for the most popular collaborated stream is ProductTank NewZealand with Teresa Torres' talk on the what and why of continuous discovery.

Second place is ProductTank Brazil and Cayman Islands with their mega stream for World Product Day 2021!

Third place is #ProductTank LATAM's #WorldProductDay stream of 2021!

ProductTank talks from the main streams are edited, written up, and hosted on the Mind the Product site as free content. Sometimes, the edited talks outshine the full stream itself!

The winner of the most popular talk write-up in 2021 is... "How to avoid turning your product into a feature factory", by Ravi Kumar Sapata at ProductTank Linz. While this talk was done in November 2020, the write-up was published in 2021, so it's included in this year's running!

This is a fantastic talk about the problems of a feature factory product, and tactics on how to prevent making one.

Next up, are the community-voted categories. These next few categories were voted for by followers of Mind the Product on LinkedIn, Twitter, Slack, and from ProductTank organisers themselves! Overall, we had just under 100 votes and each category was an open question (so no multiple choice bias). This led to a lot of different talks and speakers, but (luckily for us), there were some clear winners to choose from.

So without further ado, the product community's favourite ProductTank speaker of 2021 goes to:

Amit Bhasin! Voters particularly enjoyed his talk from ProductTank Tokyo, "From 0 to 40+ Million Users" where Amit discusses his learnings on seeing PayPay's product evolve.

Next up is the community's favourite ProductTank talk of 2021! That award goes to.....

Gibson Biddle for his fantastic talk at ProductTank Belfast on Netflix's product strategy in 2021. The eagle-eyed among us will have noticed that this talk actually made it into the top 3 most popular streams too! Congratulations Gibson!

Now we're getting personal - but in a good way, I promise! In the voting forms we sent to ProductTank organisers, we included another category. Its purpose was to shine a spotlight to their co-organisers that have helped make their ProductTank even better!

The quote that was sent to us was: "IrynaStruk joined the ProductTank London team in late 202, and has been instrumental in getting it back on track this year. She is boundless in her energy, enthusiasm, and organisation. We literally wouldn't have been able to keep ProductTank London without her."

Congratulations Iryna, and thank you so much for all you do to help organise ProductTank London.

Finally, James Gadsby-Peet from ProductTank London had multiple shoutouts! He had one saying "James is the best" - short, sweet, and straight to the point. Can't go wrong with that! Another quote for James was "James has kept ProductTank going strong for as long as I've known! He pivoted well into digital events without hesitation and is always eager to help the team" - Thanks so much for your continued support for ProductTank London James!

So, that's it for the #ProductTank Awards this year! Thank you to everyone who voted and supported ProductTank over the years. ProductTank is at the heart of Mind the Product and is a great way to connect with your local product community.

We'll see you at your next local ProductTank event!
