Products as Presents to Customers

Remember the joy and excitement when you opened that present you got from a loved one or a friend? Remember all the time and thought you spent to select a present for a loved one or a friend to show how much they mean to you? Remember the happiness and satisfaction you felt seeing the "wow" in their face as they opened your present?

If a business exists only because of its customers, then we must treat the products we build as presents we give to our customers to show how much they mean to us. Everyone in a business must have the "Product as a Present" attitude because our customers deserve it. From the messaging around the product to the purchase experience, the out-of-box experience, the support experience, the ease-of-use, the reliability are all attributes that show our customers how much they mean to us.

Let me leave you with a few questions -- would you give the products you are building as presents to loved ones or friends or your customers? How will they feel when they see it for the first time? How will they feel as they open the box? How will they feel when they use it for the first time? How will they feel everytime they see it or use it? How will they feel when they show it to someone? How will they feel a year from now? How will they feel five years from now?
