We're halfway through 2023, It's a long holiday weekend in the US, fires in France and Canada, Smoke in Chicago and Moscow, and on the second try, I finally figured out how to connect LinkedIn Events to LinkedIn Live. So as everyone heads to vacation, staycation, a new workday, or another day living, be safe, wear a seat belt, and sunscreen. Without further ado.....

Effectiveness against objectives - Outcomes-driven management

If you're only method of managing was monitoring whether or not their butts were in their seats, you didn't really know whether they were working then or not either. That's why this whole productivity thing makes me slightly crazy -?Brian Elliott

Productivity. In knowledge workers, what is it exactly? Daniel Pink , in his famous TED Talk talked about motivating with Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose. How do you inspire intrinsic motivation to increase marginal effort, creativity, and risk-taking, to increase effectiveness against objectives? How often are checking progress and alignment of said objectives, annually, semi-annually, quarterly, monthly, or weekly? Not status checks, but removing roadblocks, and adding leverage where needed. It takes training, tools, experimentation, show and tell, and commitment.

Values and Identity-Stack

My personhood doesn't depend on my job title. I am an integrated person, I am that person as a professional. I'm looking for companies that are interested in that person being inside of their company - Tyler Sellhorn?

Find a place where they're interested in the whole of you. We each have a unique set of experiences, a unique perspective, and a view of the world. Organizations are strengthed, decision-making is improved, and outcome success increases when broader perspectives and a larger range of options are considered in the decision-making process. Be your best you.

Occupier Sentiment - Live Stream and Event

The biggest difference from last year is that organizations are making some decisions around employees coming to the office. There is a parting of the seas - Julie Whelan

Don't call them mandates, as enforcement hasn't been tied to recommendations, but that might be changing with recent moves taken by some high-profile CEOs. Organizations are declaring positions, and the Labor Day Back to Office is just around the corner. There are better places to invest than 'days in the office' like activity-based space, getting more data-centric on utilization, and providing services and experiences that are better than people can get at home. Average seas of open floor plan workspaces don't attract talent, but there are plenty of spaces that do. Think intentional, think purpose-focused, and think attraction, not mandates.

And, was so excited to finally connect the LinkedIn Live to LinkedIn Events. More of those coming in the future.

LinkedIn Changed their Algorithms, creators go crazy

Posts that share 'knowledge and advice' are prioritized - Daniel Roth and Alice Xiong

Jason Feifer published an interview with Dan Roth and Alice Xiong on changes to the LinkedIn Algorithm, what it prioritized, what's celebrated, and what the publishing mission is. At the same time, many LinkedIn creators have been voicing concerns in that they're not getting the 'expected' behavior from the platform that's consistent with past behavior, namely around reach and engagement.

Good reminders that 1) Publish what you publish, don't chase algorithms, they change. 2) Building a business on the back of someone else's platform has pros and cons. The pros, you get the benefit of their reach. The cons, they can change the rules, and who they show content to, at any moment.
