With automation the power quality in industries deteriorates and power quality becomes a vexatious issue and derails the effort of automation. All equipments that employs Power electronic switches (Mosfet, IGBT, Thyristors). The loads with such Switching devices are called nonlinear loads, these loads which draw current discontinuously, and in pulses, generate frequencies that are unacceptable to loads and affect the operations adversely and automated machines life & reliability.

Installation of Automatic Power Factor control panels (APFC) to improve Power factor is often not successful due to generation and amplification of Harmonics, the capacitors in APFC interacts with the electrical system harmonics generated by the Non Linear loads, which amplifies the harmonics, and pulls down the Power Factor. The power factor panels can also behave erratically and erroneously, hence becoming difficult to maintain the Power factor within the mandatory limits.
