Production Engineering = Manufacturing Technology + Management Science.

In simple terms, a Career in Production Engineering combines two significant fields: Management Services + Manufacturing Technology. 

Production Engineering is the branch of engineering which involves the design, control, performance and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems to provide customers with high quality materials in an effective manner.

Production engineering is the convoluted design and cautious planning that goes into creating a product. Production engineering is a process subsuming everything from the initial usage of raw materials to the finished goods made available to consumers

Production engineers’ prime responsibility is to make the process of manufacturing accomplish without any obstacles. Production engineering encompasses the application of castings, machining processing, joining processes, metal cutting & tool design, metrology, machine tools, machining systems, automation, jigs and fixtures, die and mould design, material science, design of automobile parts, And machine designing and manufacturing.

Courses & Eligibility

To pursue a BE/BTech degree in production engineering, candidates must have passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

Candidates interested in pursuing an ME/MTech degree in production engineering should have completed their Bachelors in a related discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.

Work description

  • Assess and analyze current production methods
  • Design and implement cost-reductive changes
  • Maximize productivity of machinery and workers
  • Follow product specifications and quality control measures
  • Determine which machines, tools, equipment, etc. will be used and where they will be stationed in the facility
  • Determine how many workers are needed to man the production line
  • Train, supervise, and manage production line workers
  • Increase speed and efficiency of processes without compromising quality
  • Develop and implement quality control measures that effectively monitor products and guarantee desired results
  • Ensure all steps of production run smoothly and efficiently
  • Educate employees on proper methods in which to operate machinery
  • Hire technicians to maintain equipment for maximum safety and efficiency
  • Supervising engineering and technical staff, making improvements to current operations to enhance efficiency.

A production engineer in India, can get an average salary of Rs.2.5 lacs per annum to 8 lacs per annum. The government sector, salaries are offered as per the government guidelines while in private sectors they can earn more depending upon their skills, education, etc.
