Production is currently paused

A lot has happened since we took over Ernest Wright, and we are definitely on the right track. Our products are appreciated all over the world. Customers in all sorts of places, from our hometown to distant lands like Micronesia, Beirut and Guam, have helped the 'Made in Sheffield' mark travel far and wide. We've employed some highly motivated putters-in-training, of whom we are very proud, and master-putters Cliff and Eric have transferred their knowledge with great pleasure. Pam has helped us tremendously with her work on the support desk and taking care of logistics. And finally, we re-started the project to bring the iconic Kutrite kitchen scissor back into production. We are currently awaiting a metal model of the scissor, which we must judge to see if it lives up to our standards.

Our initial response to COVID-19 was to work without Cliff, Eric and Pam, and pausing our usual offer for visitors to call by to pick up orders or receive a workshop tour.

And now, given the latest developments, we have had to shut down production entirely. What a bummer. We do have stock available, and you can still go to our website and order your favorite tool to do some work at home and create something great. Twice a week, Jonathan will be coming into the workshop to fulfil your orders.

In the meantime, we plan to create documentation on the skills of making scissors and shears by hand. We will write down all the procedures, measurements, sizes, times, abrasives used, and any other specifications that matter. This information will be invaluable for internal use in the long-term, and perhaps for future generations in the even-longer-term. We also want to make some technical improvements to our website, so rest assured, we have plenty to work on behind the scenes, before we start up production again. 

The machines are shutting off on Broad Lane, Sheffield – but we'll see them up and running again before too long. As soon as possible, we will resume our work to produce our scissors and shears.
