A product series with Adenike Olatunbosun

On today's episode, I spoke with a seasoned product manager. She's an experienced technical product manager with 2+ years of experience in leading the development of technically sound and user-friendly products that generate revenue, including a background in product marketing and in-depth knowledge of software development- Next.js, JavaScript. She has managed software products serving over 2 million people across pharmtech, Fintech and stock image IT industries. She currently works as a Technical PM for a PharmTech product PHARMARUN

Let's meet her shall we ?

NB: In this newsletter, you will come across acronyms like PM, PMing which would be used interchangeably in this article. They mean Product Manger and Product management.

There are thousands of products (solutions) around you, start with exploring them. - Adenike Olatunbosun

  • Can we meet you ?? Please state your name?

???????I’m Adenike Olatunbosun?

  • How long have you been a? PM and where do you work at the moment as a PM ??

I’ve been a PM for 2 years. I currently work at Pharmarun as technical product manager

  • ?On a scale of 1-5 how much do you love your job ?? And why do you love it so much?

5. I’m so thrilled with the fact that I get to solve challenges faced by our users, working with my team to provide this solution.?

  • So people say there’s money in Tech is it true ? Does that translate to Product management??

Yes, there is and yes it translates to product management (though we’re still on our way to making THE money ??)

  • ?What is one thing you don’t like about being a PM ?

I won’t say there’s any, however the fact that you’re so responsible that if anything goes wrong (because, be ready, failure is part of the journey) you look like you don’t know what you are doing. But of course this is a good way to keep learning and improving on yourself.?

  • ?Will you pick being a PM to other professions ??

Yes I will.?

  • As a PM? how do you manage time?

Allocate time for work. If one is not careful (especially in my case as a wife and mom), you’d most likely work all through the clock. Of course your brain is always working and there’ll always be work, but I recently set a limit for myself, if it’s outside that time frame, I INTENTIONALLY do not think about work.?

  • ?What can someone who wants to pivot into PMing do with no experience

There are thousands of products (solutions) around you, start with exploring them. You can even compare two existing applications. What this does is build your product sense and help you to sharpen the skill you’ll need in the long run.?

In the same manner, there are problems around you, see how you can solve those challenges. Volunteer on projects and always be open to learning.?

  • What’s your advice for new PM’s starting out

Be open to learning first. So it’s tempting to want to start making the big cash asap, however what should come first is honing the skill. I tell you, when you do, the money will come.?

  • ?What do you do outside of work? Hobbies or activities?

Like I mentioned earlier, I’m a wife and mom (I love being these two ??). I create and share helpful contents for techies and I play a musical instrument- the guitar

I am so grateful for your time Adenike Olatunbosun really means alot to me and my audiences. I hope someone reading this would be prepared for what to come. Thank you!
