Product Manager! Afraid of AI ?
Recently i spoke to a product manager with more than a decade of experience, and he says — I’ve heard it all: “AI is going to replace your job,” “Robots are going to take over,” “Machines are going to do it better.” But let me tell you, my dear friends, that is simply not the case. AI will not replace product managers, and I’m here to tell you why, using a few humorous examples.?
First and foremost, let’s consider the human touch. While machines are certainly capable of processing and analyzing data, they don’t have the ability to understand human emotions, motivations, and desires. Let’s say you’re launching a new line of shoes. An AI might analyze consumer data and tell you that the market is interested in comfortable, stylish shoes. But can an AI understand that consumers want to feel confident and sexy when they wear those shoes? Can it understand the nuances of fashion trends and cultural influences? Can it empathize with the consumer’s need for self-expression? I don’t think so.?
Another reason why AI will not replace product managers is because product managers are the ultimate multitaskers. We wear many hats, from strategist to marketer to team leader to salesperson. We need to be able to switch gears quickly, respond to new challenges, and navigate complex situations. It’s hard to imagine an AI being able to do all of that at once. I mean, sure, an AI could probably optimize your ad spend and suggest the best marketing channels. But can it negotiate a deal with a tricky vendor while also coaching a junior team member and presenting the latest sales figures to the CEO? I don’t think so.?

Lastly, let’s talk about creativity. While AI can certainly generate ideas and recommendations based on data, it can’t come up with truly innovative and original ideas that break the mold. Take, for example, the creation of the Cronut. A Cronut, for those of you who aren’t familiar, is a croissant-doughnut hybrid that took the world by storm when it was first introduced in 2013. It was a stroke of pure culinary genius, and it was created by a human pastry chef named Dominique Ansel. Could an AI have come up with the idea for a Cronut? Maybe, but it would have been based on an algorithm that analyzed the popularity of croissants and doughnuts and suggested combining the two. It wouldn’t have had that spark of creativity, that gut feeling that tells you, “This is going to be big.”?
In conclusion, my friends, let me assure you that AI will not replace product managers anytime soon. We bring a unique combination of emotional intelligence, multitasking ability, and creativity to the table that simply can’t be replicated by machines. So next time someone tells you that robots are going to take over your job, just smile and say, “I’m not worried. I’ve got creativity, multitasking ability, and the human touch on my side.”
