Product discovery ft. ChatGPT 4o
I have started validating a new business idea in the area of Elderly Care in Portugal and what better use case for AI Product Managers than to have a companion to get inspiration, exchange ideas, provoke and speed up the development of Product Discovery and Product Requirements Documents?
Having already tested doing this with ChatGPT 3.5, I was curious to see what improvements would the new model GPT 4o would bring to the table.
I started by describing the problem and some potential ideas and asking the model to provide a value proposition, problem statement and also to use data points specific to Lisbon, Portugal. Then I asked it what would be the main competitors, and based on it, to adjust my value proposition and frame how we would differentiate from competitors.
Here’s some of my favorite (or surprising!) features:
Using voice assistant to collaborate on the go
Personally this has been one of the most useful features as I use it while driving or as a thought-partner I can speak with when i need. I use it to brainstorm ideas, have a different perspective on product related questions and use those to improve the idea I have so far, help me narrow down the problem, and keep me accountable, as well as many other personal things like finding events and even write down reflections or grocery lists.
Using the Memory feature to personalize the model
This was a surprising feature and somewhat creepy… but in one of the conversations we had, I mentioned I was relocating from Dublin to Lisbon, and ChatGPT saved a memory with this. From now onwards, the model will have that piece of information saved and might suggest related recommendations such as networking events. You can control what the model stores in its memory and delete any facts you do not want it to keep.

Getting responses from both the model and the web, as well as references
It is paramount to have everything backed up with trustworthy sources and references. There’s always work to do in terms of double checking the links and sources, but it gives a great headstart in terms of where to look and dig deeper. This allows us not to be limited by the data that the model has been trained on and overcome the 'data freeze' problem, and improves the responses quality.
Creating persona-tailored surveys
This is not specific to GPT 4o but I believe it's a great use case for product managers. Having narrowed down the potential ideas, goals, and target personas, it's time to conduct a survey. Previously, assembling a questionnaire involved days of collaboration between UX designers, copywriters and other team members. Now, thanks to AI, this process is streamlined to mere hours, producing a tailored set of questions for each persona. An interesting concept I heard recently was Living Audiences: live and proactive consumer personas, fueled by live data from external and internal sources and advanced AI layers.
Generating mockup images with a simple prompt
Having selected the key features and overarching solution, we can now visualise our ideas through the creation of mockups. We can start by identifying key features for each screen and defining the rough layout and aesthetic preferences (color scheme, typography). While this initial mockup doesn’t replace the expertise of a UX/UI designer, it lays a strong foundation for further development and collaboration with designers. Uizard is other interesting tool that you can use to create, edit and test mockups with AI.
Other features I'll explore next:
As Karim Lakhani stated, “AI is not going to replace humans, but humans using with AI are going to replace humans who are not using AI”.
So now is the time to explore and learn with the multiple AI tools available and see how might them help you get work done faster and better. From Chat GPT general models to specific AI Product GPTs (e.g. Marily Nika, Ph.D 's ChatPRD), to Gemini, Notion.AI and many others. A final note is to always carefully review all the model outputs and check for inconsistencies, discrepancies and sources.
