Conclusion: I love my Logitech Anywhere 2S mouse. It works reliably and conveniently by using many technologies: Dark Field, multi-connection, long battery life.
Over the past few months, I have the luxury of using the best mouse ever, Logitech Anywhere 2S. Turned out, this mouse is actually #2 on most favorite mouse on Tech Radar.
From user perspective, my ultimate goals in using a mouse are to
· Reliably use as any mouse would
· Conveniently bring around without hassles
The Logitech mouse achieved these goals by combining a number of technologies:
1. Reliability:
Anywhere 2S is a super reliable mouse.
a. Work on almost all surfaces
It has Dark field tracking technology, which enables it to work on almost all surfaces (and, yes, including glass, plastic, etc.). Basically, the technology works similar to a dark field microscope in a lab by illuminating the surface beneath the mouse at an angle, collecting, and focusing that light back into the lens. b. Work on three different types of connection
The mouse allows 3 types of connection via: Bluetooth, unifying receiver, and wire. So, in case, one mode of connection failed, user can always opt for another. It's like a back up plan, making the mouse (again) super reliable.
c. Work for more than a month on a single charge
The battery is legendary. I’ve known wireless mouse for a long time, but always balk at the idea of using one. Because they either :
- Use lithium battery, which I'll have to replace every week or two.
- Use rechargeable battery, but I'll have to plug in every day.
Anywhere 2S is completely different. I only charge once a month (or as manufacturer claims it: 70 days use max/charge). Again, super super reliable.
2. Convenience
a. Hardware Design
The design is awesome. It is ergonomical and fits nicely with my hand. The curve is good. Anywhere 2S also has number of other technologies:
- Hyper scroll wheel, which allows me to scroll through content rapidly
- Move left and right on the same wheel for long page.
b. Software design
Many people are completely unaware of Logitech software, which user has to download from Logitech website. The software is amazing. It expands the mouse's capabilities:
- Working across computers (up to 3). You can mouse the mouse from one screen to another as if it's the same computer. It's very helpful for users, who have multiple computers (e.g. a laptop and a PC). User can copy and paste across devices easily.
- Creating custom actions on different applications. For example, you can set middle mouse button to minimize the Chrome window while the same button can be set to "Back" to the previous page on Internet Explorer.
3. Improvements
I have to admit. There are not much to improve on this amazing mouse. I took a long and hard look at the mouse and still couldn't think of anything that will substantially improve the mouse. But, here are few minor points:
a. Pricing
All these good features come with an hefty price tag: $79.99.
b. Connection mode switcher
Logitech places connection mode switcher at the bottom, making it difficult for users to even realize the button is even there.
