Overview of mainland China this week: The travel market is entering the Shoulder Season, with civil aviation capacity supply becoming stable.
A total of 93,000 passenger flights were executed in the week, with an average of 13,000 flights per day, which is consistent with the previous week, representing an 11% increase compared to 2023 and a 5% increase compared to 2019.
The weekly passenger volume was 12.61 million people, with an average of 2.02 million people per day, which is a 2% increase compared to the previous week, representing a 22% increase compared to 2023 and a 4% increase compared to 2019.
The flight execution rate is 77%, which is consistent with the previous week.
The overall trend of national civil aviation in 2024
In terms of passenger flights, As of March 17th, a total of 1.016 million domestic passenger flights have been executed nationwide this year, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period in the previous year and a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2019; a total of 136,600 international and regional passenger flights have been executed, which is a 376% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, but a 32% decrease compared to the same period in 2019.
In terms of cargo flights, As of March 17th, a total of 15,500 domestic freight flights have been executed nationwide this year, representing a 23% increase compared to the same period in the previous year and an 80% increase compared to the same period in 2019; a total of 27,200 international and regional freight flights have been executed, which is a 7% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year, but a 176% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
The domestic aircraft utilization rate experienced a slight decrease compared to last week.
From March 11th to March 17th, 2024, the average utilization rate of domestic aircraft in China was 8.3 hours per day, a decrease of approximately 0.8 percentage points from the previous week's average.
The utilization rate of wide-body aircraft averaged 7.2 hours per day, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points week-over-week; the utilization rate of narrow-body aircraft averaged 8.4 hours per day, a decrease of 0.9 percentage points week-over-week.
Passenger throughput at airports: Guangzhou, Pudong, and Capital airports ranked in the top three, with most airports experiencing a slight increase in passenger traffic.

Most major airports with passenger traffic of over 10 million experienced a slight increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous week, with Yantai Airport seeing the highest increase at 8%. In contrast, passenger traffic at Harbin (6%) and Changchun (4%) airports in the Northeast region continued to decline, with their decreases still ranking at the top on a week-over-week basis.
Airline flight volume: Eastern Airlines, Southern Airlines, and Air China ranked in the top three, with slight fluctuations in flight volumes among major airlines.
