Renovation Background: Fulfilling its role as an exchange center - for a fun, tasty, and resilient future.
-------------
In May 2021, Matsushigate opened with the hope that it would serve as a disaster prevention and exchange center for Tokushima Prefecture and increase the number of people involved, thereby making Tokushima Prefecture a gateway to the region.
About a year after its opening, Happo-en collaborated on an event that was held at “MuSuBu”, a pop-up showroom operated by Happo-en in Minato-ku, Tokyo, in May 2022 and in July of the same year Happo-en and Matsushige Town signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement.?
Since then, Happo-en and Matsushigate have been working to revitalize Matsumo Town and Matsushigate through events and the development of the café menu and food products.
It is through these past efforts that we have decided to open "FOOD BASE KITCHEN" on the second anniversary of the opening of Matsushigate, with the aim of further developing its role as a center for disaster prevention and community exchange through food.
We will continue to work together to create a lively exchange center that will provide visitors with a fun way to learn about disaster prevention, develop recipes that make the most of local specialties, create products, hold hands-on workshops and more, while creating a fun, delicious and resilient future for all.

About "Matsushigate," an exchange base facility
The town of Matsushige, which has been promoting town-wide efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, opened the "Matsushigate" exchange center in May 2021, the same year they announced their goals in the "Matsushige SDGs Declaration”.
“Matsushigate" is a facility that serves as a hub for exchanges. The facility is involved in various activities related to the SDGs, such as the cultivation of "indigo," a local specialty, the development of products for local production for local consumption, holding workshops related to SDGs, in addition to operating rental spaces such as a "kitchen studio" and a "fab space" equipped with a 3D printer and other tools.?
We are taking on the challenge of implementing a variety of SDG initiatives that will lead to the development of local communities. Matsushigate will also play a role as a base for disaster recovery from earthquake and tsunami that are expected to hit the Nankai Trough in the future.
