Procurement Defying Expectations and Leading Transformation at the Procurement Leaders Dubai Forum
Chief Procurement Officers are busy in the Middle East transforming the fabric of the function. Yesterday, Procurement Leaders hosted our Dubai Forum, in which some of the leading thinkers in regional procurement shared their insights shaping the future of the function.
As with many geographies, local leaders in procurement are excited by the potential of artificial intelligence. Hani AlSaigh, Chief Procurement Officer and VP of Supply Chain at Tahakom, noted at our Forum that “AI will drive the next procurement era.”
And certainly, the Middle East equals any other region in producing technological creativity by buyer teams. We saw a variety of AI use cases presented and debated within the Dubai Forum. Starting with chatbots, delegates presented solutions for stakeholder requests that are fielded by a P2P-integrated communication tool, to more commercially impact topics, such as should-cost modelling and bots to help manage changes in SKUs. Teams are looking to rapidly roll out effective solutions across the Gulf.
The increase in variety and offering types has increased the complexity of many procurement data and system stacks. Delegates not only spoke of tools to provide more efficient solutions but also to help simplify their current architecture. CPOs can therefore play a role in transforming organisational systems into a focused and effective technology base

Aside from a boom in technology, we have also observed a rising focus on sustainability. Despite the Gulf's central role in fossil fuels, many shared investments in green technologies. The region’s leaders are also looking to capitalise on the local climate's potential for solar energy generation.
In fact, scope three is a serious challenge for many CPOs. Delegates all outlined initiatives to collect and report on supplier emissions. However, the most progressive executives were deploying carbon capture solutions and resailing the gases to other industries. Such an ambitious initiative underlines the region’s significant potential to host a pivot to circular supply loops.
We see that many of the leaders present at our Dubai Forum are defying expectations, but also channeling regional energies into a dynamic, AI-enabled future. ?
