PROCRASTINATION. It's a thing...

PROCRASTINATION. It's a thing...

I've been sitting here with my laptop on my knees for hours, tapping away and deleting lines for this newsletter.

and in that time I have also...

Made a loaf of bread ??

Messaged friends who I haven't spoken to in months ???

'Accidentally' watched an episode of 'The Great British Bake off' and half of the QUEEN movie... ??????

... but no newsletter. ????

This week's newsletter was supposed to be about alleviating stress...

and then, when nothing came from my fingers about that, I changed my mind it was going to be about how to make Monday mornings more manageable...

But the more I typed, the less I felt inspired to write - and the more I started to watch the tv. ??

And then I remembered a coaching session I had with a client on Friday, and how we'd talked about procrastination as they had been putting off getting health insurance for ages.

And as the session progressed, and we dug into it, the more they realised that there was absolutely nothing stopping them doing it - except doing it! ??

and they had said "Alex, I know what I have to do, I just need to do it!"

So I said, so what's stopping you doing it right now?

The answer?

Nothing!

So, they did it.

There and then.

Health insurance - bought and paid for ??

And it was done.

After months, maybe years of wanting to do it.

It dealt with in moments.

It was that simple.

So why did it take so long?

and why is procrastination one of he biggest killer of action and ambition out there?

because it is a serious problem.

It held me back for years - and sometimes still does.

So what causes procrastination?

For me - fear is definitely a key reason for it.

fear of failure

and equally,

fear of success.

So, I know you're thinking... that's all well and good Alex, but as a Professional Coach, can you give me some tips for overcoming procrastination?

AND YES! I can!

Its super simple.

MAKE A PLAN. ??

and

Do your best to stop caring so quite much.

You see, I really CARED about this week's newsletter... and making it perfect.

and because I did, and I didn't have a real plan - nothing came out, and I made bread and started to watch a movie instead.

So, my biggest tip for overcoming procrastination is to just DECIDE to to it, make a plan, and then as the famous slogan says...

JUST DO IT. ??

There and then.

So if you're wrestling with procrastination and getting things done:

  • Write down what that is
  • Make a plan of how to do it
  • And then just do it. straight away if you can. or if not, schedule it.

And I bet you will.

or... you could work with someone to help you stay on track and focused.

So... that's it for this week. Let me know what you think about procrastination, and if you have any helpful tips that work for you?

See you next week, and here's to the last month of the year! Have you started thinking about your goals for 2025 yet? If not, in the spirit of helping I am offering 5 sessions with me for 5 people to focus on setting their 2025 Goals, with the aim of hitting every single one of them!

... at no charge whatsoever.

If you are interested in being on of those 5 people, let me know, and lets have a chat.

Have a great week!

Alex
