Processing Powerful Emotions Before Critical Decisions
We have almost all had moments of that overwhelm us; whether it comes to accepting a job loss or the loss of a love one. Coping with loss in moments like these is part of what makes us human; indeed even when processing victory like you just won the lottery or you have received a large inheritance can bring emotions that cloud the judgement. Feeling is what makes us human, but strategic thinking requires reason. Its important to let those powerful emotions play out before making those most important decisions.
This can be harder than it sounds. But that doesnt make it any less important. It is hard to be a robot at a time when your heart is bursting with joy or grief. And its fine; dont be a robot. But dont be an emotion either. Use your emotion to drive your passion; let your passion drive you, but let reason make your strategic decisions for you.
In other words; when dealing with actions or consequences that will affect the rest of your life; try as hard as you can to think about it rationally. That can hurt, and may even be beyond you, but there are very few people and very few moments where people looked back and said, "I wish I had handle that situation less rationally."
