Process V/s Result

Chief Sales Officer (CSO)?? Top Management Professional - "I Make Communication Happen" I XLRI Alumni I
I have been a fan of one of the greatest sports leaders India has produced in recent times, yes none other than our on captain cool “M S Dhoni”. Due to this fondness I have watched his bio “ M S Dhoni the untold story” multiple times. It is truly inspiring and provides any manager a lesson on being successful. To me the best learning for his "rag to riches story" is his ardent believe in the process. As he always ways “Process is more important than the result” .
For sales professional who has to get results in difficult situations, that too form different type of clients, one should keep an eye on the end result and passionately strive to achieve the same, but to be success full he has to follow the process. Any deviation in process may reduce the chances of his success.
With more than 22 years of my experience spanning various functions and industry, leading divergent teams, in my opinion process is more important than result.
It is always the process that will be the key because it puts less pressure on the team. It is important for all of us to break the end goal into achievable tasks, to keep a track of progress made daily.
It is so because process is something that we do and that is something, which is in our control, but result is something that is based on numerous factors and is beyond our control.
Hence, if you pay more attention to the results, you are likely to be worried, frustrated and dissatisfied.
If you, however, pay attention to the process, you can always be satisfied and happy with every result.
You can hardly ever fail if you follow the right process because even if you miss the stars you will still reach the moon and achieved the best you deserve.
If we make our teams follow the process, they would be well poised to provide better results. As following a defined process will help them deal with multiple challenges and situations they have never experienced before.
Following a process will help the team to manage mistakes better, and will provide them an opportunity to rectify faster and achieve the results. When you are focused on a specific desired result you are less willing to experiment or take risks that may just propel you to a better outcome than the one you were actually aiming for.
Success is a journey rather than a destination, there are multiple stations/ junction, which has to be reached before the final destination, and it is here process comes into play. When you are focused on the process you really are excited about being in the present and enjoying it more fully. You are engaged and you want to dig deep at those opportunities and avenues you can, because at the end of the day it becomes about learning faster and gaining experience.
One should achieve a sense of satisfaction and happiness at the end of the goal. That is what focusing on the process gives you. Things in life may not actually turn out the way you want to but you are happy that you dedicated yourself to the process and won within.
Following the process help you get the joy and motivation No matter what you're going through, you're capable to break out from the negative cycle!
For the benefit of all in the next few days I will expand more on the process.

4 年I totally agree Rishi in maintaining the right balance between process and results. Just result focus without process respect, will only make results far.
