Process Mining an Important Step in Hyperautomation.
Process Mining:
Mining, as per its definition, it’s a process of digging-in to obtain more useful resources. Now apply this to IT world, isn’t most of the current business application are too complex and dark for naked eye? where it’s not possible for human eye to get insight of it and find out more without any assistance. And that’s why the Process Mining, which gets into deeper understanding of complex business and IT process which cannot be easily interpreted.
But isn’t it that we people are the one who designed the application systems? That’s correct but e.g. if I give one piece of paper to 3 persons and asked them to write it down on what they understood from the working application process then with no surprise I will get 3 different interpretations, so similarly with traditional way of interviewing the team we won't get clear and concise picture of complete business process.?So it could be the case that team knows the process but they are still unknowns of unknows which needs to be addressed.
What will be the impact?
Well!! this affects the day-today operation and impacts companies bottom as well as top lines, because of delays in process such as purchase orders and this could be some loopholes in the process like lot of tedious manual task which were unknown due to siloed working.
?How to Identify it?
That’s where the Process Mining tool will help the organizations. However, it always starts with the real-world scenarios where people are working in coordination’s and supported by various chain of system applications.
As we all know, anything that processed by system gets logged into files which means it will always leave its traces behind. These traces are captured by process mining solutions and with the help of various machine learning algorithms it would provide visual representation of the complete process.

Sounds very simple, isn’t it? But it’s not, these are very sophisticated algorithms (like alpha algorithm etc) that team must apply in order to get meaningful output from it.
The system then generates visual representation (connects the dots with unique parameters like order id, timestamp or transaction name etc.), which will provide clear understanding of where exactly the bottleneck is, and it could help us in identifying new opportunities for automating certain task if they are too time consuming e.g. a tedious manual task like updating some missing fields and resubmitting it for main process.
This will really help organization in improving their response time, operation efficiency, can free-up their employee's time which they can devote towards more strategic tasks.
This is not a one time process, where the visual representations or steps will keep on updating if there are any changes at organization level and helps us to bridge gaps between siloed running process.
One should take an bottom-up, which will help customer to understand the business needs, criticality and urgency of any process and help them to decide to choose right set of tools for an automation.
Having said that customer's should not lose their existing investment but rather build an integrated ecosystem which help them to achieve desire outcome.
This can be achieved with the help of domain and automation experts, working in synergy to provides required inputs, which will be helpful to take right decision towards the Hyperautomation journey.
