Process the Feels

Process the Feels

I recently got back from spending two magical weeks in Brazil for my wedding, and after such an incredible high from the built up anticipation, the adventures and excitement, my energy dipped to a real funky low.

My head was foggy, my emotions were unstable, and I was uncontrollably crying. My body was depleted, I had zero motivation to do anything, and my ruminating negative thoughts were caught in the self-doubt, unworthiness and self-sabotage loop.

I was IN. IT.

The old me would’ve started to fill my calendar with things to do just for the sake of keeping busy, to feel “productive”, and to distract myself from facing the pain and discomfort.

But the current me, welcomed the wave. I surrendered to what was coming up and let myself feel the feels. I gave myself the time and space to be with them and now that I’m on the other side of the funk tunnel, I am sharing some of the practices and loving reminders I embraced to help me move through the undulations.

My hope in sharing this with you is that it will offer some support and solace during your next emotional wave.

Let it Flow

Our emotions are meant to be held, seen, expressed, and experienced, so let them flow and do not try to manipulate, organize, or rationalize your way out of the feeling. We spend so much time in our heads and in our thoughts, and processing the feels is all about dropping into the body and feeling into what desires to be released.

Space and Time

We need space and time alone - clear your calendar, take a personal day - or several, if circumstances allow - and create that spaciousness to simply be with yourself. Don’t set a timeline on when you should be feeling better, take it one day at a time. (anddddd, don’t waste hours doom scrolling on socials, disconnect from the tech - set that boundary for yourself)

Movement

Movement truly is medicine so depending on what your energy calls for, you might need something slow and gentle - like laying horizontal on the floor, sitting in child’s pose, deep stretching, going on a long walk - or fast and releasing - like shaking, jumping, running, dancing. Let your intuition guide you on what feels most nourishing.

Music

Music is a powerful tool to help shift and clear energy. Listening to slow, ambient, healing frequency music is my go to when my heart is tender. Check out my?Slow Down?playlist. My recommendation is to put on some tunes that speak to your soul and allow yourself to let the music carry you.

Nature

Get outside and spend time amongst the trees, the sun, and the fresh air. It feels so yummy to be held by pachamama and to observe the beauty & abundance all around. The color green has a calming and rejuvenating effect on our nervous system too.

Meditation

Guided meditations work wonders, especially when we are caught in our own negative spirals. This practice invites in stillness, a moment to drop into our human bodies, tune in and listen closely. I personally love the app?InsightTimer?and recommend listening to Liz Colpa’s 12 minute meditation on?Choosing Abundance Over Fear

Conscious Breathing

Breath is life. When we breathe deeply we can reduce our stress and anxiety levels, clear our energy channels, reduce our heart rate and blood pressure, create mental and emotional clarity and improve our overall vitality. Check out my?Long Deep Breathing?clip on instagram.

Reflective Journaling

Writing is a transformative tool and too often dismissed in our hectic lives. The magic of this practice is writing with the intention to?further understand?the meaning behind our emotions. Getting to the root cause of our wounds is how we heal. So let the pen flow and see what messages reveal themselves in this practice.

Community

We are made in relationship and we heal in relationship. Having a support system (such as a loved one, a mentor, or a coach) that will offer a neutral ear, loving presence and compassion is huge for our healing work. We do not need to go through this alone so be sure to reach out to your support network. Conversations have the power to change our body’s chemistry by releasing feel good hormones and give us a sense of well-being.

I know it can be scary and difficult to open up to the uncomfortable sensations but I invite you to?surrender?and fully?process the feels.

You will be rewarded with clarity, insight and wisdom.

Be kind to yourself and allow the magic to unfold.???
