PROCESS - 6. Learning is developing
It is not an easy task to learn from every situation. In many cases, we are used to simply experiencing situations and not connecting the dots afterwards, so we miss out on the ‘learning of the moment’. Corporate life comes with many learning opportunities, but you need to take a step back and reflect, which is not always easy.
In order to learn something, you need to be relaxed and authentic, like ‘a fish in the water’. The only way to feel like this is to be in a comfortable environment. So, it seems that we can only be our authentic selves and learn if we are in our home, but we are social creatures and need to gather in a space that feels like a home shared with others.
We talk a lot about company wellbeing. The main reason for creating an environment where people can have a coffee on a couch, play tabletop soccer, or have a book sharing space in the office is to make people feel comfortable. How can you understand these factors if your business is done in another country? How can you figure out if there is a culture of growth and wellbeing in that country? How can you create this approach of letting colleagues (and thus the entire company) learn and develop from a distance?
Three things should be useful:
