Problems are part of Life...but they are NOT Life!

There is one thing common to all of us in this planet. One thing that all human beings need to go through. One thing that we can’t run away from, especially if you are an Entrepreneur: We are all experiencing problems! Whether in your private life, social life, family life, professional life, they are there. You can’t escape them. How you experience these problems and deal with them makes the whole difference in the quality of your life.
My particular experience is clearly influenced by the fact that I’m business owner but clearly everybody could easily identify to some of it if not all of it. When I left the my “classic” 9 to 5 job about 6 years, I clearly knew that I was moving into unchartered territory. I was surely excited but at the same time extremely anxious. I remember the night just before I handed over my resignation letter to my manager, I literally could not sleep. I was wondering whether I was making the right choice. Although I spoke to my wife (The real boss??) many times to ensure ?I had her support, I was still petrified by the magnitude of the decision I was taking. I knew however, deep down that I had to go through this path. I had deep down that inner belief in me, that to this day has never left me.
What did I do? I jumped! I took the step! I was waiting to then live the life of this American superhero who is surmounting any obstacle to win it all in the end. You guys all familiar with this scenario right?
Six years, down the line, I’m clearly still on my journey, still have my Wife with me (depending on the days??) but boy….I discovered that it is INCREDIBLY HARD! As an entrepreneur, problems are just EVERYWHERE. As soon as you handle one, another one pops up. You are the only one in the business, you got to deal with one-man problems, you growing and then start employing people, congratulations…you’ve now become a father! The father of the company??. And you need to deal with your children problems….whatever they are.
So I told?myself, if I’m ever going to succeed in this whole journey, I have to find ways to cope because YES, I’m still determine to Bring (Back) Power to Africa. ?I am still determine to show all my brothers, sisters from the continent or outside in the diaspora that it is still possible to not only make it, but clearly tackle all our challenges, as along as we set our mind to it.
Based on all the self-development learnings I’ve gone through, from Tony Robbins, to John Lee or Grant Cardone, there are 3 keys tips I could share that may help:

1.??????Don’t get overwhelmed
Whatever problem your are going through,?avoid being completely overwhelmed. This will paralyse you and you won’t be able to do anything. Yes, you may go through some shocks at the beginning as you are discovering the situation but stay collected. This is the only way to think through the problem and come up with the best options to handle. And if this can motivate you further, think about the fact that getting overwhelmed is not solving the problem at all. It actually makes things WORSE. So stay collected.
2.??????Focus
The second thing is to focus. Think about the priority in that particular situation. What is that you need to handle first? What can wait? Do you need to respond urgently to this partner who is looking for you to sign the collaboration agreement or do you need to handle the customer who is complaining about the delay of the service? In this particular scenario, you would need to deal with the situation that brings you revenues faster but this obviously is not always the one thing to do. The key thing though is really to focus your attention to make maximum impact faster and then move on to the next problem on the list.
3.??????Meditate
Yes! You heard me right. This is what I do on a daily basis. Most of the time, twice a day. First thing in the morning and last thing before going to best. This has seriously allow me to develop this ability to stay calm and not getting overwhelmed. It is important to say tat before, I used to be a little bit more impulsive and could still be at times but the practice of meditation has help me significantly. So I would argue this is a MUST DO for every person, let alone an entrepreneur who wants to keep sane.
With all this, I’ve come to realise that in fact, we’ve got to be actually grateful for having problems. Yes, grateful. All the skills we’ve developed are because of problems we’ve once encountered. And thanks to these problems, we’ve now developed competences that are making ourselves valuables.
PROBLEMS ARE PART OF LIFE….BUT THEY ARE NOT LIFE!

2 年Great read. Thanks for sharing Tony. Well I guess a lot has to do with your mindset. Instead of thinking in problems it helps to think in solutions. This does not mean there are no problems and everything is going smooth, however it changes your perspective and I think especially helps to not get overwhelmed. As I always jokingly say: I have so many solutions, but unfortunately no suitable problems for them ??
