Problems? Let me list down for you.
A state, once called as the land of intellectuals, is now the talk of the town and being shamed across the country because few students were caught copying in the examination. It certainly goes into the national newspapers and thus the reputation of the state deteriorates. These incidents not only bring shame to the identity of the individuals of Bihar but also possesses a great barrier in the development of the state.
Before NDA government came to power Bihar was led by Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav. Under his governance, the state went into negative development. Corruption, kidnapping, murder, scams, injustice, unemployment, low economic growth were norms. NDA government came to power with a basket full of negligence from the previous government. Although they took several initiatives to curb the slow growth of the state, several factors that are still prevalent today came as a hurdle to the development process. Corruption, poverty, flood, tax collection, lack of infrastructure for companies to grow and establish, brain drain, illiteracy are some of the factors that possess a threat to the growth story of the state.
Bihar is an agriculture state with approximately 80% of the population has agriculture as their primary occupation. This sector although has contributed a lot in the GDP of the state (23%) this sector has seen a lot of problems in terms of natural calamities, lack of irrigation infrastructure, inadequate pricing of the agriculture produce by the government. Widespread illiteracy across the state also serves as a hurdle to the growth with the current literacy rate of 61.8%. Among those who are literate mostly fly off to different states in search of better opportunities. To tackle this brain drain menace the government has initiated several programs in facilitating infrastructure to cater to the needs of the industries and opportunities to the talented ones.
On the other hand, corruption has dented every department of the state that not only serve as a tool to suppress the poor but also hinders the smooth flow of the benefits to the beneficiaries. With several initiatives and policies, the government has helped industries in doing business that in turn have helped people of the state to find a suitable job prospect in the state curbing out the brain drain menace and upscaling the per capita income to US $ 598.3 (2016-2017). Decorated programs like Jan Dhan Yojana for financial inclusion also faces challenges such as illiteracy, moneylenders influence and most importantly the operational efficiency of such accounts. These challenges not only bar financial institutes to penetrate into small sections of the society but also make illiterate people vulnerable to exploitation.
Different NGOs and other institutions as a part of their CSR activity have now taken several initiatives to spread awareness to the least benefited sections, to facilitate education infrastructure, and to improve the living standard.
Bihar has a lot to give to the development of the country. A better administration, a better law and order, better opportunities would certainly open doors for the growth of BIHAR.
