This is in no way bashing other companies or prior companies I have worked for.
I have found out that there will always be certain roadblocks you will come across when looking for a new career opportunity. These roadblocks to me seem to be very petty. For example: I have a very broad range of experience in the IT Field. I have mostly stayed within the security realm. The problem with this is that I lack experience in the other areas; such as networking and system administration. I now have the system administration experience. I have been applying to new positions daily for almost 2 years now with maybe a total of 10 phone calls each ending in denial, the other thousands of applications come with no answer at all. What could be missing? It certainly is not general IT Experience. It is the type of experience. I have been nothing but a Government Contractor for the Navy, Marines and Army since getting off of Active Duty Navy. The Private sector does not always use the same software and Operating systems as the Military. The government and military has and always will use Microsoft products. They will not use something like Amazon Web Services. That is a serious roadblock and in my opinion, an extremely petty reason to deny someone who works hard to complete their job efficiently a position. I myself and no expert. I am a hard worker. I thrive in environments that give me a challenge. Something new that I can learn. I have done it in multiple positions over the past 10 years. I have gone into each position completely blind and I came out better because of the way I learn. I look for companies that are willing to take chances on people like myself. I may not fully qualify due to a single technicality in requirements. You may find yourself surprised. I learn as I go, I learn the job by doing the job. I can not learn a job though a book. I have told past trainers to give up on training me. I will oversee you do it once and then let me have at it. I have become the single best asset at multiple positions with the way I work. In the end, you should not give up due to the requirements. It does not matter if you (Do not Qualify). Apply anyway. Now all you would need to do is hope you are contacted and not ignored. Take your life into your own hands and stop letting the companies that wont give you a chance put you down. Those companies that will not even consider you would probably end up being a bad choice. Follow what you want to do. Find a company that will give you a chance to learn and improve yourself and their product. It is not always a good idea to hire someone extremely proficient in something like Amazon Web Services, who knows, they will get bored because that is what they know. Companies should start hiring the people who do not have that experience, because that gives that new hire incentives and the company a new advantage.
This is strictly an article and nothing more. Furthermore; I would like to thank the following companies for giving me the chance I needed to get where I was with absolutely no experience in those specific positions: TEKsystems - Computer Network Defense Analyst, Sentek Global - Information Assurance Analyst, Iron Bow Technologies - Senior Windows Server Administrator.
