The problem with personal perception

The problem with personal perception

When pondering the concept of time it is very common to picture it as a river that flows past while we watch from the bank. Time seems to flow faster and faster the older we get, never stopping. The only problem with this perception is that it is totally wrong.

The reality as we all know is that we are all in the river being swept along with the current. The flow never changes, time does not speed up nor slow. Yes, our perception of time and indeed most everything else is subject to our situation and current state of mind. Our perception of reality is highly influenced by how we are reacting to our environment.

So how are we supposed to trust our understanding of the situation? We often adjust our perception based on the opinion of others, hoping to gather a consensus that points in the direction of truth. I believe we have over a hundred years of empirical evidence proving that to be a failed experiment.

So what now live in self-delusion hopping for the best? Should we seek to be like Vulcan's and purge all emotions removing that from the equation, reducing the variables misconstruing reality? Proverbs 3:5-6 addresses this issue. God knows that this problem would exist for us so He chooses to grant us wisdom for any who choose to accept it. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Your future lies before you, each day ready to be unfolded, eager to be lived out. If you wish to make the best choices in each rely on the one who can actually see reality and direct your steps. All you need to do is trust Him.

May each day you live be a day you look forward to!

Blessings.
