The problem with the Indian Education System and how it is conditioning our minds in a negative way.

“All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy” to quote, this is exactly the huge loop hole in our education system. Our education system has created a well-organized rat race where each of the students is competing locally within their schools or tuition to score the highest. Such are the extent of these rat races that even the parents are dragged in to it. However, they are completely unaware of the bigger picture: the global competencies of the children, the future of these kids in the industry tomorrow! Most of the educations that we receive from school to graduation level are merely based on books and literature with little or no practical application of the theories we study in real life. We encourage a system where formula are more important than concepts. We know little about almost everything from civics to science but we fail to focus and deepen our knowledge in any particular field. I still remember one of my teachers telling me “You can continue studying on a particular topic you like till you age but for cracking the competitions you need restricted to the point Knowledge”. I questioned then and even now, what’s the point of such an education system where you study just to crack an exam? How can you think of innovation if you don’t deepen your understanding?

These questions bring us to the practical scenario which is even worse. Look around yourself, you might end up seeing many unhappy faces struggling at their current job because they ended up doing what they never liked or were not good at due to lack of other well-informed options.

You will find many more unemployed. Due to lack of innovation and entrepreneurial attitude there are not many industry pioneers and hence not many industries in our country. Many times Individuals join research institutes as an escape route from being unemployed and not out of shear passion! To quote one of my senior said. “I completed M.Tech, but I didn’t land up on a good job, hence PhD”. I wonder why research and Industry aren’t soaring higher!

Brain drain is being common nowadays. People are opting for PhD or jobs abroad for better pay and opportunities. All of these problems are rooted to our education system which lacks to apply knowledge into solving practical issues and thus unable to create opportunities, quality research and industries.

Too much of sayings and complaints but the first and foremost question when we talk about these problems is “Are we ready to accept these changes in our career??”. A large majority of Indian parents and students look up to engineering, medicine, law and management as “better” streams. The system is such that vocational streams are almost always looked down upon. If a young student wishes to make a career out of his/her hobby, s/he has to fight or convince the entire society before going ahead with the plans. In fact, a large number of students have no choice but to graduate in Science, Humanities or Commerce even if they are ultimately going to be musicians. The most important catch here is that if we or our parents had awareness about the other options and the other streams were also well branded by schools and colleges like Science or Commerce possible we would have chosen our career from well informed options according to our interest and liking. This availability of well –informed options and right to chose might be the revolutionary step in the education system which surely will have positive impact on Industry and Research with happy people. Free minds working in there are of interests are the key to innovation, entrepreneurship and in turn variety of employment opportunities for many other.

Though it has a lot of flaws as of now, it can be improved if we bring such innovation.
