The problem with diets is.......
Joanne Posey
I help organisations support their staff in menopause & give line managers the tools they need.
1) They make you focus on the wrong things
2) They're all about loss
All too often when you think ‘diet’ you’re thinking about losing weight & how eating certain foods is going to help you hit your target. You’re thinking calories, points, cheats, hacks, meal replacements, shakes, low carb/low fat/sugar free/fat free, weigh ins etc, etc, etc. You’re looking for the quickest route to your objective with the least amount of pain.
Quickest route please because while you’re getting there, you’re forgoing your usual habits, favourite foods & social activities.
What you’re not focussing on is building a path to long-term health with foods & activities that make you feel flipping amazing & like you’re making the greatest investment in yourself.
What an ‘off the shelf’ diet plan doesn’t support is a consideration of:
‘how did you get to this situation’ – what is your medical & dietary history, life stresses, time pressures, nutrition know-how?
‘is this process actually going to make you healthier?’ – what will be the impact on your basal metabolic rate? Are meal replacements and artificial sweeteners compatible with glowing health?
‘is the plan do-able within the confines of your life?’ – does it fit with your professional and personal circumstances?
‘is this sustainable for you?’ – even if you can keep going to your target weight, then what?
‘how do you avoid ending up back at square one?’ – if your BMR has taken a hit and you haven’t been given the skillset to replace your old diet, what do you do?
‘is there any problem with me quickly losing weight?’ - is your body ready for a release of toxins from fat cells?
If you want effective weight management for the long-term you need a personalised approach that takes into account your unique circumstances, genetics, environment; and which supports you through slip-ups and down days.
