Proactive approach for learning something is worthy. I follow this approach and try my best. I am telling you one story today.
As a translational scientist, I work in a lab and I do experiments in rodents (Rat & Mouse) model of diseases. This is preclinical in vivo research which is one of the very important factors for Investigational New Drug (IND) application and determining initial dosing in human i.e clinical protocol.
In preclinical research, we know the protocols for experiments are needed to be approved by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Similarly, an IND application is also associated with approval of clinical protocol by an Institutional Review Board (IRB).
After completion of CRO (Clinical Research Operations) certificate, I was so curious to know the procedures of protocol approvals by IRB. I emailed the director of IRB at Jefferson about my interest. I was fortunate that he allowed me to participate an IRB meeting as a guest following the standard norms.
I recalled all the theoretical knowledge what I learned and correlated it visually. If you are passionate about your desire, you will find ways if you try best.
