PRO TIPS - CAD Linking 2

PRO TIPS - CAD Linking 2

This is Part 2 of our pro tips for CAD Linking DWG files into Revit.

Work smarter and optimize your efficiency.

1.      Adjust CAD Link Layer Properties Effectively in Revit

Ensure all CAD data has colour / linetype / lineweight set to BYLAYER - which allows properties to be adjusted reliably in Revit.

To do this open the CAD drawing in AutoCAD and use the command SETBYLAYER to set all properties to BYLAYER.

Be aware data inside CAD blocks may also need to be set to BYLAYER – this could be very time consuming but just search online for a lisp routine to do this automatically (or contact us and we will send you one).

2.      Automatically Reflect Lineweights in Revit

To avoid adjusting Lineweights of CAD link layers in Revit, either use the Revit Import Line Weights dialogue found on the Insert tab, or alternatively set the ‘Lineweight’ property of each layer in AutoCAD as shown in the images below.

These will automatically map to the nearest Revit pen weight (ensure data in CAD is set to colour, linetype and lineweight BYLAYER). Note this needs to be done correctly BEFORE attaching the CAD Link

3.     Control How Changes are Made to Layers

Make CAD Link Layer Changes to all Instances of Link

Should you need to make CAD link layer changes to all instances – make all changes from Object Styles > Imported Categories tab.

Make CAD Link Layer Changes to Individual Views

If you need to make CAD link layer changes to individual views of the CAD link only – make all changes from the view Visibility Graphics > Imported Categories tab.
