Proverbs are sayings which label many things by using barely any words or just a line and we can connect that precise sentence or phrase with other circumstances. In other words a proverb is a short, generally known sentence of the tradition which contains wisdom, truth, ethics, and customary views in a symbolic, fixed, and memorable form and which is handed down from generation to generation. Proverbs develop time to time; there are a number of ancient and modern phrases that are exist. For instance an ancient proverb can be “a dog is man’s best friend” and on the other hand a modern phrase can be “one picture is equal to a thousand words”. The development in the part of proverbs leads to modifications as per the generation and that can be gained by via gears like online spoken English course.

5.     Laughter is the best medicine

Meaning: When you’re in a difficult situation, laughing can make it easier to get over that situation.

Any language is incomplete without containing proverbs in it. Proverbs are basically a custom of any language. They are usually used in our society by the people just to relate something with a specific situation. Some proverbs are very famous in some novels, dialects or culture and even holy books such as The Bible and only their forms are diverse from each other but they all mean the same. The Bible is significant in every phase and it can be trustworthy for the realities it states. The book of proverbs certainly illustrates this point very well.

Knowledge of idioms from different countries can create an optimistic picture of the speaker with the native person as the person (native speaker) would think that the other speaker is aware of their language and customs. We can even say it is a human nature that people like conversation with those who have mutual culture, language, tradition etc. Proverbs are typically very short in the form of text so it becomes easy for a beginner to learn through online spoken English course.

·      Arabic Proverb: An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

·      Finnish proverb: Even a small star shines in the darkness.

·      Jewish Proverb: God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.

·      Italian Proverb: After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

·      Spanish Proverb: Since we cannot get what we like, let us like what we can get.

·      Russian Proverb: Better to stumble than make a slip of the tongue.

Proverbs are a mixture of understanding & perspective. They are a sort of sayings which can’t be deprived of or just ignored. These words are nevertheless inscriptions on rock. It does not argue over a point or explain anything; it just tells us a great truth in the most significant way. Role of Proverbs

Proverbs play many roles in society. The first most general role that a proverb plays is for education. Also, proverbs or idioms can be used by an expert while giving advice in a conversation.

There is a proverb for just about every circumstance and they can be relevant to any situation.

We are bounded by idioms every day. Whether at work, school, church during a conversation with a friend, the probability of hearing a proverb is in elevation. Despite the fact of the arrival of diverse beliefs and customs in it is not surprising to come in contact with many.

Ways of learning Proverbs

  1. Make a list of at least 50-60 proverbs along with their meaning by means of books, newspapers or internet.
  2. Level of idioms as per the list should be not being very high. They should be simple in the initial stage.
  3. Design categories such as: Love, hate, family, work, health, money, humanity etc. and insert each proverb in the respective category from your list.
  4. Learn one proverb daily and their meaning from the list you have made.
  5. Try to apply proverbs you have learnt in the routine conversation to flourish.
  6. Create and paste illustrations having idioms in your classroom.
  7. Take guidance from a person with developed intellect of idioms. The supervisor would let you know what the errors are.
  8. Also, make attempts to put on right proverbs in certain situation.
  9. Attend any seminar and keep a note pad to jot down the idioms spoken by the person with the microphone.
  10. Exercises like “match the following” proverbs with their meanings can be obliging for an amateur to understand better.

Many proverbs comprises of arguable facts (e.g., don’t judge a book by its cover; Honesty is the best policy), so these kinds of proverbs can be used to help students develop their argumentative approach. This might also help the students to prompt their agreement or disagreement with the means of the selected idiom and deliver a definite piece of evidence to support their point.
