Private on Social Media

Private on Social Media

Here's what we always hear when it's about growing on Social Media —"Just be authentic... people love to see your private life!"

While authenticity sounds all good and well.

What does it even mean?

You're probably a different type of authentic in front of your family, then your friends, clients or business partners. That's all still you, authentically. But different versions.

So we go with the next part of the advice: just share your life!

But here's the think: none of your clients really wants to know your private life in detail.

So, how do you connect with your audience while keeping your private life, well, private?

Let's talk about it

I kept my pregnancy a secret until 3 months postpartum.

And when I say secret, I mean SECRET.

From co-workers at adidas, clients, everyone on social media, to even some friends.

Why?

Because I believe in the power of personal connection without compromising privacy.

I've managed to grow my community by +10k followers every month. Not once, not twice, but four months in a row.

Without anyone knowing my family, my hometown, or my daily routine.

Your Personal Brand is NOT Your Private Life

Your followers want to connect with you—what drives you, your purpose, and your beliefs. And yes they want to know your personally, or at least have the feeling they do.

But there's a difference between personal and private.

Who are you, what's your story, your message?

And yes, this approach can get emotional, but it's about sharing the essence of who you are without oversharing.

How?

Ask yourself:

  1. WHY Why do I want to share this? Is it going to help someone? Do I have a new way of looking at things that others don't talk about much? As a businesswoman, I noticed a lack of positive motherhood or postpartum content, something I deeply longed for. Thus, my goal became to share possibilities for you, your brand, and your business, even as a first-time mom.
  2. WHAT What parts of my story am I okay with sharing, and what parts do I want to keep just for me and my family? You don't have to share every little detail to inspire others. What matters is the big lessons you've learned and what you believe in. Keeping my kid and family safe is my top priorityHere's a quick-start:Tell your storyTalk about your "why" (I was surprised when I shared?"My Why" ?in a video on my page—it was over 2 minutes long (and if you know Instagram, you know usually the best-performing posts are 7-sec reels). Guess how many views it got? Over 300k!)Share your (sometimes) controversial views and beliefs
  3. HOW—use different content formats to share your story without giving away too much. Short videos that share your ideas are the key to this. What exact content strategies we'll discuss in my free Masterclass next week. Concrete tools you can use to share your story (not your personal life) and what to post so you don't need you to show your private life (or even your face). There are lots of ways to connect with people without sharing everything.

Remember, your personal brand is not your personal life. You don't need to expose yourself to grow and inspire others. Ask yourself why you want to share something and how you can do so in a way that's comfortable for you.

Congratulations, Sina. I too believe in the power of personal connection without compromising privacy. Especially while in such a delicate state of pregnancy.
