Prisoners of Politics

The nomenclature POW sounds very familiar to all of us. This referred to Prisoners of War who were captured during the war, tortured, many died in the process but?many returned back to their motherland safely.

This blog draws a connection with POW as my thoughts are based on the current scenario of Politics in the country and I have named it POP -Prisoners of Politics. It may seem little awkward for the readers but I feel we all in some way or other get entangled in political discussions and scenario.

In political parlance, the word “defection” and “horse trading” are very commonly used to understand when you hear about an upcoming election. This leads to the political calculations and assumptions and give birth to a so called “Campaign Pundit” who predicts about the ruling party or opposition party and their challenges with permutations and combinations. The election agendas are prepared, finalized & slowly the election campaign starts catching up with the youth and their so-called politician icon or mentor whom they idolize.

The loudspeakers go abuzz and we see lot of posters and banners and we hear innumerable speeches being delivered live or recorded. The speeches on huge screens, keep the youth and children glued to as that treats them as a good source of entertainment.

Amidst all such campaigns, propagandas, speeches the strategic brains of the respective parties are burning their midnight oil to look for the prospective candidate, to fight election and win for the party.

To lure prospective candidates, offering powerful position, fabulous financial benefits are offered to have a large impact. This practice has become so rampant these days that many new independent candidates do make good out of such opportunity.

New practices are implemented to give them a flamboyant experience so that they succumb to the demands of the party.

Most of us may feel these days elections have become a farce, meaningless, ridiculous and irritating experience to deal with. It seems, the word “DEMOCRACY” is losing its sheen and has been reduced to foul play, dirty mindset and meaningless politics only as compared to earlier days.

If we still feel and hold the same respect in our heart for the “DEMOCRACY” then we all (including the political fraternities) should stand on a common platform by obeying the rules of election process, practicing fair play, no demeaning, no derogatory remarks/comments, showing gender respect, not participating in horse trading and above all showing utmost respect to our very old institution known as The Constitution of India, which is the supreme law of India. Formation of our government is done through a process - of the people, by the people, for the people and is called “DEMOCRACY” else it will be some day termed as “IDIOSYNCRACY”.

We all should strive hard to make our “DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM” proud by contributing more in terms of knowledge, sharing experiences to form a better society rather following the age-old ideas of defections, horse trading which are harmful, baseless, creates monetary losses for exchequers and civil unrest at times for all of us.

Always remember to be a good citizen, show patriotism, respect political, parliamentary practices & processes rather than being “Prisoners of Politics”.

“Shun the GAIN use your BRAIN”.

Be proud to be called a Babu, rather a Taboo ……………
