Priority Not Priorities- This is why you're not getting as much done

What do you have on the top of must get accomplished list? Is it “priorities”?

In plural?

Maybe you have a lot going on, and not much getting done. That’s because you're not focused on the PRIORITY.

Singular.

You've got to focus on the one thing. What is your top priority?

We teach a 12-3-1 philosophy. When we help people complete a Peak Performance Action Form, we focus on getting to the top priority.

I led a recent mastermind pop-up, and at the end of the day, we took 15 minutes. I got some classical music playing and said, "We’ve masterminded so much information today, I want to make sure that you not only get great value from our time together, but I want you to put it on a list. Then, I’m going to teach you the 12-3-1 philosophy so you can get to the top priority and get that done first.

So, after about 10 or 15 minutes, those in attendance went through the process, making their own lists, and we debriefed at the end. I said, "All right, let’s go back and share your top priority."

I teach them to go through everything, identify the top 3, and then the top 1.

Everyone had their top one priority, and I asked them to share it around the room to reinforce accountability.

It was music to my ears.

They all had their top priority. I told them, "That’s the only thing you're going to work on when you walk out the door today until you get it done. Once you get that done, move on to the next."

So, remember, it’s not priorities—it’s priority.

What is your top priority today? Go do it. Take action until it’s done, and then move on to the next one.
