"Wendendes Gespann" (Working Team) is an intaglio, a drypoint, by German printmaker Philipp Franck, done in 1922. The platemark measures 9-3/16 x 12-5/8". This impression is pencil signed by the artist in the lower margin. It was printed by the artist on a heavy cream wove paper that measures 14-7/8 x 17-7/8." This image is reproduced in Bruno Kroll's, 'Ein Leben Fur Die Kunst', page 42.Our inventory number for this intaglio is 20087.

This dramatic drypoint depicts a team of draft horses, struggling to pull a harrow while the farmer walks behind with the reins in hand. The artist chose to view the subjects head on to emphasize the power generated by the team.
Phillip Franck did a number of etchings of horses between 1922 and 1924, horses working, frolicking, and running. These included a series of mythological horses including phantoms and the myth of the Daughters of Leucippus, with a nod to Reubens.
