"Le Rêve d'Hiver" (The Winter Dream), also found as "Untitled #4",?is an intaglio, a color aquatint and etching, done in 1971 by Japanese-born printmaker Tetsuo Araki (1937-1984). The platemark measures 23 x 18 inches. This impression is pencil signed and annotated "AP" in the lower margin beneath the image. It was printed by the artist in an edition of 120, plus proofs, like this impression, on a sheet of ivory wove Arches paper that measures 29-1/2 x 22-1/4 inches. The inventory number for this work is 1037.

Tokyo born Tetsuo Araki learned color intaglio printmaking in Paris with experimental printmaker Johnny Friedlaender. In this abstracted color composition he uses aquatint to achieve the deep blacks of the chasm and rich colors of the the checkerboard pattern. The light areas of the top and bottom are done created using a light aquatint which is scraped back and lightly etched lines are added. The white "string" connecting the two sides also appears to have been scraped away.

Tetsuo Araki died in Paris in 1984 at the young age of 47.?
