Prins Daniels Fellowship Explores NKT: Where Entrepreneurship Meets Engineering

Since 1891, NKT has been at the forefront of entrepreneurship and technology development. Today, we are part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, constantly pushing innovation to improve energy transportation, support the green transition and continue as technology leading cable manufacture in the market.

“NKT and BTH have a strong collaboration, and we are delighted to welcome Prins Daniels Fellowship in Karlskrona for discussions about the importance of technology and entrepreneurial skills. A close companionship between academia and companies like NKT is crucial when it comes to fuelling innovation, entrepreneurship and industrial development,” says Andreas Larsson , Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Blekinge Institute of Technology.

Driven by the green transition and the increasing need for power cables, NKT is embarking on a significant expansion of the Karlskrona factory, positioning it as the world’s largest high voltage offshore cable factory. As part of the expansion, we are in the process of hiring approximately 500 new employees.

“It is an exciting time in the energy sector and for NKT. We are actively seeking profiles who can join us on our mission to connect a greener world. The visit from Prins Daniels Fellowship, IVA, Marine Technology Center of Sweden and BTH presents a great opportunity to discuss advancing technology, engineering challenges, and talent attraction,” says Darren Fennell , Executive Vice President and Head of the NKT Karlskrona plant.

  • In 1954, we introduced HVDC cable systems and installed the world’s first submarine HVDC cable system between the island Gotland and Swedish mainland.
  • In 2014, we launched 525 kV extruded HVDC cable systems which is now the acknowledged industry standard and used in installations like the upcoming SuedOstLink and SuedLink in Germany and the IJmuiden Ver and Nederwiek Offshore Wind Zones in the Netherlands.
