With all the uncertainty it's difficult to think about making concrete plans to move forward, but as business leaders that's our job, to keep moving and provide direction even in times of uncertainty. Our employees still need to get paid and we still need to contribute towards the growth of our economy.
Right now, it feels like all our plans have to be rethought and to an extent they do, but 2020 is far from over and there is hope ahead. Whether you're pivoting or sticking, if you're in business chances are you'll be launching a project this year. So, let's talk about how to do that successfully in these trying times.
There is a silver lining to be found in this cloud that we find ourselves in. There have always been businesses that thrive during times of crisis and I believe that some of the most successful businesses and projects of the future will be birthed in this season.
It's not a question of if you're launching a project this year but more a question of what and when.
Most projects that were in the pipeline will need to be rethought, canceled or postponed, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It’s possible for you to launch a project that is even better for your organization and those you serve than any prior project. We are being forced to think in new and creative ways and great things will come of that.
The 3Cs of this season
In order for our businesses and indeed whole industries to succeed post-corona three things are paramount now:
1. Collective Brain Power
Some solutions will only be found when we all begin to problem solve from our own zone of genius and then bring those thoughts together to generate ideas and solutions that have never been seen before. No one has a monopoly on good ideas. Each of our businesses are just one part of a larger eco-system and when the component parts of that eco-system come together great things will happen. Our businesses will flourish individually and collectively.
“We must learn to think together in an integrated, synergistic fashion, rather than in fragmented and competitive ways....”
- Joanna Macy
2. Creative thinking
‘Thinking outside the box’ can no longer be just a buzz word it has to be our reality. Old ways of doing business have gone for good, business as usual has officially ended and that is a great thing. off the back of this crisis we will see business models that we’ve never seen before, marketing methods that never existed and innovations that will appear to have come from nowhere.
3. Collaboration
Together we will absolutely achieve more. Now is the time to forge and amplify strategic partnerships to capitalize on the opportunities that do exist. There is a need to pool our talent and resources for the greater good.
This time is awful in many ways but if we harness these 3Cs it can also be amazing.
The question remains how should you go about launching these projects? The answer is my 6P Launch Strategy Framework? that addresses and overcome the 6 common launch mistakes that cause most projects to fail and comprises 6 key areas: purpose, people, product, promotion, process and profit.
