Principles, Starsky and Hutch, Equality over Equity
“Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them...well, I have others.” — Groucho Marx
Good morning all you beautiful people, how are you? I am well; my wife is well, our family is well, life is grand; I hope you share my sentiment. This time is the most fantastic time in the history of humanity to be alive, so lean in and enjoy it.
We had a busy day yesterday; I joined my thought leaders call at 10:00 a.m. I could only stay on for 30 minutes but got to see my friends, fellow do-gooders of society, people that make an impact every day. We ran a call with a fellow insurance professional up north; we are looking to expand our reach to the Chicago land area.
I had another call with a thought leader in CO at 11:30, Catherine and I chat about every 60 days to share wisdom and challenge each other. She gave me a book recommendation, Positive Intelligence; I promptly downloaded it and will give it a listen this week. She thinks it will become part of my curriculum.
I connected with an agency in New Mexico; I started their 6-hour training. We did two hours; they are juiced to get going—a small family agency looking to grow. Bay joins me when I teach; she takes notes and helps me hold folks accountable. Accountability is a crucial part of my training; you have to do the work to succeed.
My mind is returning to lunch with Jeremy. Every time we meet, he gives me ideas, he challenges me to think, and I love that. He shared that his company is trying to have their best year ever, and they are using the analogy of how one eats an elephant. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. I shared I thought there was a book about that subject, and he was not aware of the text; we joked I could pen the book and then sell it. But alas, there is a book, it’s called “Eating an Elephant One Bite at a Time.” by Brian Klemmer; I’ll add that to my reading list. Jerm, I just texted you the info; buy it for your staff.
We met the VRBO gang yesterday; we will be offering our Indy Estate for $500.00 a night, a minimum of three nights starting early June. We talked about the locks we needed to install, we have a little work to do, but starting next month, we will have another source of income. The price point was set to keep out the rug rats and party types. Indianapolis is a convention city; we are within walking distance from the convention center; this should be a good spot for visitors from far away lands to enjoy our fantastic city.
At 4:00, we took PVHT and headed to our local hang “the dugout.” It was her first time at an outside dining venue; we got a couple of drinks, she sad alongside, looking at all the other dogs, not barking once; she’s growing up, we will start taking her along with us when we go “down the hill” when at our wester mountain top chalet. I love that damn dog. I should share she now knows how to open the back down to get inside; she’s pretty bright for a four-legged creature.
We’re meeting our family today to get our toes did. We will have lunch and then head to the toe place; I think black paint with yellow smile faces on each toe. That’s my jam for this month, we will head back home, and I think Bay is coming over to play some Gin. Tomorrow we are meeting my son, wife, and granddaughter at a park to have a picnic. We will take PVHT and hang for a couple of hours.
Monday, we get our second shot; can we remove the masks? I think so; the CDC shared the news, and although about four months late, thank you for giving hope to the 50% of people that give two shits what you think since you have been wrong at every turn. The other 50% lived their lives following their critical thinking, think for yourself; you have a brain. Don’t ever allow another man, woman, or child to tell you how to live your life. Wolves ignore the opinions of sheep.
My wife is slow asleep; she’s sleeping in this Saturday morning. Soon she will be up; we will share some sugar and start our day. I love that woman, she makes me a better man, and I don’t know what I’d do without her; she is the guiding star, the Starsky to my Hutch, the nut to my screw. We love life the same way, we do life together, and I sense we’ve got another 60 or so years to enjoy each other.
It’s a beautiful day here in Indiana. The weather is finally turning; it’s green here, but not as green as Missouri; if you want to see green, head to Missouri,
I hope this word soup warms your belly; I hope you are reading these words with hope for the future and a disdain for the current push for equity. Equality over equity, never forget. But what do I know, just a white guy, slinging thoughts and ideas from a purple writing chair in the Midwest. I’m sure my words don’t resonate with all and if you disagree, thank you, your opinion is welcome, and maybe you can enlighten me as to the error of my ways. I might not be correct, but you know where I stand.
