Princess Margaret Cancer Walk

It's been a little while since I've posted exclusively about a charitable event. But cancer is one of those things that's always worth raising money for - especially since my mother went through breast cancer several years back. It made the COVID times, extra interesting, I'll say that much.

And The Princess Margaret Walk to Conquer Cancer is a big one that the Bank gets involved in on a corporate level, which is cool. I've never participated, but this year, I was challenged by a friend and colleague to do so. If you’d like to support me, click here.

So I'm going to attempt it. It's a long walk surprisingly away from the short pier, that I'll probably job portions of - my cardio hasn't been great in a while - and that means making a lofty goal of $1500 by early September.

It's nifty that if other people join the team! And if you’re looking to sign up and work for BNS, we have a referral code which gets us both 50$.?

So please consider that. Tell your friends, family, total strangers in the streets. Especially if you both have LinkedIn where I'll also be posting about this.

So, why Princess Margaret?

Well, they're one of the top five cancer research institutes globally. They're Canadian grown, and they have a history of making an impact on people's lives. Their research has enabled treatments like that which my mom underwent possible and more affordable for Canadians.

For those curious, the institution was founded in 1952, and renamed in 1958 when the hospital was opened by her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, and was renamed to mark the occasion, as per the UHN's website. The hospital has been doing research and expanding treatment facilities ever since

Also, turns out that said Princess didn't die of cancer (but other health problems), though she was involved in some charitable causes including cancer foundations in the UK. I suppose it's not all bad, but perhaps in the vein of Ryerson University, it can be renamed to something more patriotic, generally Canadian, or maybe medicine oriented. One day, maybe.
