The main purpose of an automotive paint shop after durability is the beautification of product. The first step in all 2C2B, 3C2B and 4C2B solvent based painting scheme is primer application.
Although primer coat occupies maximum thickness in cartography results, ironically it is dealt with the least priority traditionally and thus painted manually in most of the paint shops around here compared to the coats that follow it.
The inevitable variation in primer coat thickness due to its manual operation affects LW values in the wave scan results causing non uniform OP across body in appearance.
The said defect can be easily eliminated as part of built in quality principle with robotic spray application.
From a financial stand point, the elimination of said defect improves DDR, reduction in the cost of expensive polishing compounds, initial investment of repair zones, manpower cost and utility cost. A conservative estimate predicts the payback to be well below 4 years.
In context of Pakistan's automotive industry, only Toyota uses ASM for primer application.
