PRIME THANKS

PRIME THANKS

I woke this morning to two competing messages that, juxtaposed, were dissonant and jarring.? LinkedIn served a friendly reminder that a college friend was celebrating a work anniversary.? Sadly, this month also marks his abrupt passing two years ago – gone too soon, leaving a spouse and two children.? Shortly after visiting LinkedIn, I opened my personal email to an avalanche of prime day offers, I’m told I can’t live without.

Thanks to clever marketing and years of consistent messaging, I know it’s time to replace the battery in my smoke detector when I adjust my clock every spring and fall – hat tip to the marketer who invented that campaign, I hope they coyly smile as they snap a fresh 9volt next week.? In that spirit, I would like to start a new tradition.? Every prime day here forward, take stock in what you have rather than being victim to what you are told you need.? I’ll start.? I chose five categories important to me (these will vary based on your personal path and priorities):

Self – I just pumped out 40 push-ups this morning after a 30 min cardio.? It’s not my marathon PB.? But, it felt pretty damn good. #primethanks?

Family – In less than three weeks my oldest is getting married.? He and his delightful partner will be surrounded by family and loved ones who hold them both so fondly and wish nothing but the best in their shared future. #primethanks

Work – I’m roughly 10-months into starting my own small business.? There have been ups and downs for sure.? But, I’m surrounded by a community of supporters and clients that find value in the work I provide and the impact I’m having on their organizations. #primethanks

Community – I sit on the Seattle Center Commission (Seattle Center is what you would get if Central Park and Lincoln Center had a baby and moved to Seattle).? I’m currently part of the strategic planning process to ensure this community gem is prepared to serve the community for the next 50+ years.? It’s immensely gratifying to steward something intended to be enjoyed by future generations.? #primethanks

Faith – Faith to me is that universal truth that brings light to the world and connects us to something time-immemorial.? It’s a connection I have through music or a shared experience where I feel empathy and hope for the human condition.? #primethanks

Today is a prime day – give thanks for all you have.
