Primal motivations behind our attitudes towards space

Space has always fascinated me - and perhaps every child - while growing up. The dark night sky with its millions of twinkling stars, planets and the moon, always created an element of mystique and surprise that overwhelmed our puny existence on earth.

Human being’s innate, insatiable desire to conquer the space domains outside the earth, has fueled the development of space exploration, and established it as one of the most invested sciences.?

However, there are some other aspects of this science that often misses our attention; it’s the underlying set of motives which fuels this desire. Motives that come out from the deepest crevices of our primitive brains, which keep our hunger for more exploration alive.

The Primal Human Motivations

On one hand, conquering space satisfies a primal human drive for power and control. It demonstrates potency and virility. It scratches an itch for dominance and ownership over the unknown, and boldly expresses raw human potential. Space probes going beyond the Milky Way is a validation of this.

On the other hand, the desire to conquer space is a means of attaining immortality by leaving one's mark across the cosmos for an indefinite period. It provides a path to eternal renown in the human psyche that seeks to overcome mortal existence. The embossed wheels of Pragyan rover, stamping Ashoka pillars and ISRO’s logos on the lunar surface is the closest example.?

On a third level, there could be other motivations, for example, desire for defiance and glory, desire to understand the micro-self / inner self by exploring macro-space, or desire to traverse new territories of the unfathomed reality.

In fact these primal motivations also subliminally reflect our behavior towards space in general. It’s a well documented fact that unorganized human colonies often demonstrate many of the primal behavior among their inhabitants. Encroaching land and marking with personalized pillars or stones, squeezing one’s belongings within smaller homes, creating physical spaces to pursue one’s faith and perform prayers, within a cluttered existence, are just 3 examples of such behavior.?

Therefore there’s a clear indication that “creating space on earth” is an attitude that has been wired into our DNA throughout the ages of our human existence. So it’s no wonder that the same attitude should drive us at Kompress, towards finding solutions to any kind of space and storage problems… especially where there’s none that seem to exist!

What’s more interesting and important to note is that this attitude continues to evolve each day for each one of us. Incorporation and integration of smarter technologies, automation, robotics, machine learning and software, have only empowered us further to hone and perfect our capabilities, explore newer domains of physical space, and find solutions to any kind of storage problems.

Customized storage solutions of Kompress developed for ONGC’s offshore platform, and for the steel industry giant IMERYS are just two of the many examples.

In conclusion, while on one hand conquering space signifies immense achievements for science and the human race, it also smartly hides the primal human motivations towards power, dominance,? glory and immortality. These primal motivations manifest themselves in our attitudes towards finding more spaces within available spaces.?

As a result, “creating space” has become an indelible part of our DNA, which continues to drive us towards finding solutions that deliver maximum density, per square unit of available space.?

And who knows, one fine day, human being's persistent quest and efforts towards conquering outer space will also enable us to find more space within our inner space - be it the physical, or even the metaphysical.?
