Pride in our leaders - Compare and Contrast.
I note with interest news reports that Prime Minister "Justin Trudeau became the first sitting [Canadian] prime minister to participate in Toronto's annual Pride Parade, simultaneously marking a special moment in the country’s history and reaffirming his support for the rights of the LGBT community in Canada".
Bravo I think. However the photos seem to tell a slightly different story. Mr Trudeau, it seems to me, is not so much a participant in the parade as to have stepped in front, using it as a backdrop for his photo op.
Compare that with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar's presence at Dublin's 2017 Pride Parade. Here is probably the currently sitting Prime Minister of anywhere who has done most for his country in terms equality and reproductive rights. As such he has, in my opinion, earned the right to front any parade and yet remains a true participant.
Bravo Leo. Is maith an fear thú.
