Pride Month at Datarobot

Pride Month at Datarobot

Companies turning their logo rainbow coloured in honour of Pride Month, represents a huge step forward. Although we still have a way to go when it comes to equality for all, we are light years ahead of where we were 20 years ago.

An organisation’s culture and diversity policy is largely influenced by its senior leaders and in that regard, Datarobot is by far the most inclusive company I have ever worked for.

At Datarobot, we have a thriving LGBTQ+ community called PrideBots, that meets on a regular basis across all regions. On this week’s call, it was hugely inspiring to see our Chief People Officer (Elise Cole) and our President and COO (Debanjan Saha) hosting and leading the panel discussion. They both shared the very personal reasons why they are Allies of the LGBTQ+ community, and champion the PrideBots collective.

The panel discussed a number of important topics with great candour, including the importance of promoting an inclusive workplace, where people can be themselves and build deep and trusting relationships, without fear of shame or discrimination. Everyone agreed that whilst coming out can sometimes be difficult, being closeted can be painful, and even stall a career.

Changing our habits just slightly, can make a huge impact on the perception of inclusivity in the workplace; such as asking people for their pronouns when we are not sure. When this happens, non-binary people for example feel “heard” and therefore recognised. And it’s not a difficult habit for us to adopt.

Promoting diversity and groups like PrideBots in the workplace greatly raises awareness and makes it easier for LGBTQ+ people to live their authentic and best lives, do their best work and hire the best people. So I thank our leaders and everyone who came out in support of PrideBots for helping to make our workplace better for all.
