Pride, Growth, and Team Spirit – My learnings as a nominee for the HDI Award 2023 representing Northwestern Mutual

Embracing the Nomination:

The happiness and pride that washed over me when I was nominated to represent my company Northwestern Mutual (NM), is indescribable. Reflecting on my experience as a nominee, I am grateful for the valuable lessons that have contributed to my journey of growth and unity. Although I did not win the award, witnessing a fellow nominee from NM, Kyle Gjelsness , emerge victorious fills me with pride.

Humbled by Leadership and Team Support:

The nomination is a testament to my hard work, commitment, and the trust placed in me by my leaders. This was a huge recognition for me that further reinforced my commitment to providing exceptional service and representing NM with the utmost dignity. I feel deeply humbled by the unwavering support of my leaders and well-wishers ( Jose Acosta , Jim King , Sangeetha Rai , Rasheeda Panniell , Cristofer Palacios , Jill Weber , Monali Mardikar(FRM- Pimpale) , Susanna "Susie" Platt, CPTD ) Through this nomination, I saw their belief in my abilities and dedication to my growth. They stand by me and offer guidance, mentorship, and solid encouragement. Their support amplifies my gratitude and motivates me to give my best in every aspect of my work.

The tips from my team and previous years' winners Adam Labban , Andrew McLaughlin were instrumental in shaping my experience. We face challenges, celebrate achievements, and learn from one another as a team. I think the unity and camaraderie we develop during this process strengthen our bond and help create a collaborative environment that goes beyond the nomination itself! I learned so much more about members of Tech Customer Success in NM, which is helping strengthen the bond, not only as colleagues but as work friends. The shared goals and aspirations that we pursue as a team are helping create an environment of collaboration and mutual growth.

Transformative Power of the Interviews:

The interview process proved to be a transformative one for me, teaching me invaluable lessons that extend far beyond the nomination. It challenged me to articulate my thoughts effectively, communicate with confidence, and think critically under pressure. Come to think of it, the interview was an opportunity where I honed my ability to present myself confidently, showcase my skills, and demonstrate my dedication to the work I do. This process also instilled resilience, as I encountered moments of self-doubt and learned to overcome them. Reflecting on this, I see the interview process has undoubtedly prepared me for future endeavors. I made awesome new connections with Jason Wischer and Jeremy Lipusch

Bonding with Fellow Nominees and Celebrating Kyle G.'s Victory:

One of the unexpected joys of the nomination experience was the opportunity to connect with fellow nominees Xaq B. , Karissa Herns , Dylan Garfinkel . Every individual brings unique perspectives, experiences, and talents to the table. I am thankful I got the opportunity to engage with these exceptional individuals.

I am especially proud to celebrate Kyle's victory. Witnessing a fellow nominee from NM achieve success fills me with immense pride. Kyle's accomplishment reflects the high-class customer service NM provides to our field users and clients. It reinforces our commitment to excellence and motivates us to deliver exceptional service.

Preparation for Life's Uncertainties:

One of the most significant takeaways from this journey is to be there for your team. At the celebration night, everyone came to cheer and support the nominees and the winner. It was a work-week-night but they were there to show they care and we matter to them. The list is endless but all the people you see in the group pics and more!!!! Maxwell Moody , Brandon Judkins , Andrew Voeltner , Scott S. , Daniel Janick and more....It taught me to be present, embrace the unknown, adapt to new situations, and cultivate a resilient spirit. It has been an empowering experience and I am thankful beyond words.
