#Pride in API-driven Services for the LGBTQA+ Communities
?? June is #Pride month so the team at APIwiz wanted to take a look at some of the best public APIs or API-backed services out there that help foster #LGBTQA+ rights. Here's a listicle of those APIs for progress we are aware of but please do add comments on other APIs we should be supporting with our financial or our code contributions – or both!
Equaldex: The Collaborative LGBT Rights Knowledge Base that helps to visualize LGBTQ+ rights through maps, timelines, and captured datasets.
RightDocs API developed by HURIDOCS is a JSON Open API that compiles Human Rights Council resolutions, decisions, presidential statements and reports, and it requires no user data to access. The open API is in use by applications such as RADAR by Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development, which uses the data to display UN Human Rights Council resolutions on Asian countries.
Refuge Restrooms is a web application providing safe access to restrooms for transgender, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people, including the ability to rate the restroom experience.
QueerMap by qiekub is an open source guide for LGBTQA+ people to find community centers, leisure spots and other helpful information to find safe spaces globally, even filtering if it's a space built for queer people or simply a place that others have experienced safe for this community.
Everyone has a right to feel safe out there so thanks to all those working behind these Open APIs and services. Please amplify these services, consider contributing to these projects, and comment below your favorite LGBTQA+ friendly API or API-backed service we should be adding to next year's list.
