Very quick story that happened to me a couple of days ago, hope it gives you get clarity.
Anish reached out to me in February. He was employed but wanted to advance in his career. I answered all his questions on a free Zoom call and invited him to attend my free webclass .
He attended my free webclass and got a job without getting into my mentorship program.
However, on Friday he registered for my mentorship program. I was at the airport with my family flying to Miami but called him within a few minutes to thank him for his trust.
He shared that although he was able to get a job he felt he could do much better in his career.
On Saturday, we had another Zoom call, and he shared where he's at in his career now and the options he is considering. Here's something that really caught my attention...
He was focusing on money rather than happiness. It doesn't really surprise me anymore, a lot of professionals focus on money and a few decades later end up regretting their decision.
I can coach him to get any job he wants; however, why not focus on one that gives him first happiness and then money, rather than the other way around, which is not guaranteed?
In simple terms, when you are happy with your job you will enjoy it, pay attention to detail, excel, overdeliver, and stand out every single time, you will always grow in your career.
However, when you are miserable in your job you will not excel in your job or career. Furthermore, you will bring so much dissatisfaction home it will ruin your entire life.
Throughout our conversation he shared he wants a job that enables him to earn as much as possible. This is the question I asked him which enabled him to change his approach...

He is making $80,000 right now and wants to make $120,000...
So I asked him, "would you rather take a job for $120,000 that doesn't make you happy, or one for $115,000 that makes you happy?" He answered in less than a second: "$115,000."
You can see how with just a simple question he was able to prioritize happiness over money.
I asked him now to imagine getting a job that makes him really happy but pays him $80,000 like he is currently earning, and his answer was fast and clear "I would be happy to take it."
I can easily coach him or anyone how to get any job they want; however, it is my utmost responsibility to make sure I steer people in a direction they will never regret later.
Without this chat he wouldn't have considered this perspective and continued chasing money rather than happiness, which would have cost him in happiness, health, relationships, etc.
Anish is young, smart, fast learner, driven, easy to communicate with, and now has a much healthier and clearer perspective on what career success truly means... and so do you.
What are you prioritizing? Please share in the comments for others who are completely lost in their careers, no matter how early or late, can also benefit from your experience.
Now he will apply the same strategy shared above to get the job he wants but one that gives him personal happiness, professional fulfillment and financial strength.

2 年People are still looking for jobs due to age barrier. What is the solution here? Companies send a regret in less than 10 mins. Why is age such a factor vs qualification, experience & skill when u haven't even talked or had the chance to interact with the candidate in person to assess.

2 年Our priorities change when we get older and wiser. Money is important but it can only do so much. Finding a job that makes you happy and pays you properly is not impossible if you have a strategy.
