Human being has been evolving for over 100 years and has been making developments every passing second. What used to be a great invention about 100 years ago is in museum now. All the developments are attributed to the quest for better living or life. What seems like a great idea few days ago will be totally obsolete and efforts will be on to make something better. This process continues to evolve and evolve with this thirst to be better and smarter.
With introduction of smart devices and gadgets we are getting smarter and efficient. We have the entire contact list in our hand phone that used to be in our memory. We could lose all our belongings and still not worry as we would still have few contact memorized - who we could reach to for help. Now, we feel helpless when we lose our phone and continue to shop for apps that help us recover our contacts incase we lose our phone. While we think about this situation, let's take a step deeper, I have about 200 contacts and I would have memorized about 10 contacts during my childhood days i.e. not smartphone days. Now, I don’t have even 10 numbers in my mind, so feels like I got smarter as I have the whole contact list in my phone. What happened to the memory in my head that got freed up due to introduction of smart device? Where is that getting used? or is it still lying unused and getting rusted? hmmm guess we don’t have the answer to that yet.
During my recent trip to one of the first world country, my phone developed an issue where maps wouldn’t function accurately. I used to get so worked up and stressed before planning any local trip as I didn’t want to get stranded/lost. Even upon return to India I started using map, what happened to the idea of knowing a place? talking to people? having a conversation? what worse can happen after all? may be reach the destination late by an hour.
With this “smart” concept deeply rooted in us, we are loosing much more than we are getting. Like, what are we doing with the unused memory? where is our ability to search going? and many more. Impact on health is the biggest of all and we all are very well aware by now.
“Smart" is just a concept that is marketed so amazingly well that we are ready to trade anything to get “Smart”. Take a minute and think everything that is labelled as “Smart’ and you will smile.
You can thank me later :-)

7 年Very well narrated concept of how we are deceiving ourselves in the pretext and disguise of being smart. It only boils down to one point where in human intelligence has preceeded over artificial intelligence.
